Hi All,
I just sold a ThermoBaker on eBay and had indicated that I could get a grill to the winning bidder for an additional $35. This is the quote Macy's in Houston had given me one month ago. Well, the buyer exercised that option and paid me the additional money. When I called Macy's to tell them I wanted it they said they would call me back with a price, although I told them they had already quoted me $35. They called back and said it would be $58.50. What a load of Bulls**t! This is not the first time that Macy's gave me a price and renegged on it.
WARNING, don't give them the time of day. To give you an example of their price gouging I was given a quote by them to rechrome a rangetop. They wanted $800 while everyone else had quoted me from $300-350. They don't have a furnace to reporcelain stuff nor do they have the facilities to rechrome anything. They just send stuff out and pass the costs to the customer.
I'll never deal with them again!

Well, on the upside, it is nice to see you back on the Hostboard (even if it is for a rant!!) It's been a little quiet on the Board lately.
Sorry to hear of your troubles. There are a number of "restoration" folks that don't do their own reporcelaining and rechroming and have a high markup - I've been bit by that too. I paid $160 to a place to do 4 little chrome timer parts, then found a direct source who would have done them for $40. I hate it when that happens!! Grrrr....

hey tura and victor,
feels like a reunion! ill email you both pm.
anyway, about re chroming, a local guy does classic car restorations and sends his parts out to another shop that does excellent work. ive sent parts thru the car place for chrome and have been very pleased.
maybe we should all get together and make a list of "recommended" support folks. just an idea.

Looking forward to the info.

A new acquantance of mine is related to Macy - he informed me that she died suddenly not too long ago.
He doesn't care for the new people who are running it, and will have nothing to do with them (he used to locate and transport CHAMBERS ranges to her in Houston).

When Ms. Macy died she deeded the business to her long-time right hand man (who will remain nameless). I actually like the guy, but wonder how long he can keep the business going.

Well, my one and only experience was more of "price shock"!! I was calling around for reporcelain work for my stove top. Macy's was the highest at $850.00 if memory serves me correctly. Everyone else was $300-400 range. I went with Hughes Place out of Louisiana. I had a nice smooth transaction and shipping was reasonable and the folks were friendly!! Tura, I dealt with Kenny each time!!! The stove top is beautiful!!!
