Tips and Best Practices for Electric Strike Installation

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to install an electric strike on a commercial door and I want to make sure I do it correctly. I’m wondering about the best approach for aligning the strike with the existing latch and ensuring reliable operation. Are there specific tools or templates you recommend to make the installation easier?

Also, what are the common mistakes to avoid, especially regarding wiring and power supply?

Any tips on testing the system after installation would be really helpful.

I’d love to hear about your experiences and recommendations!

Hi!

Installing an electric strike can be straightforward if you plan carefully. Start by using the manufacturer’s template to mark the cutout so the latch lines up perfectly, as misalignment is the most common cause of problems. Make sure you have the right tools, like a drill, chisel, and file, and double-check the wiring with a multimeter.

When performing electric strike installation, pay close attention to the strike’s voltage requirements, usually 12V or 24V, and avoid running undersized cables or connecting it improperly. After installation, test it manually first, then power it up and cycle the door several times to ensure smooth, reliable operation.
