I don't really plan on stopping my AG collection for a long time. I know there are some people that only collect a certain amount of dolls and I was wondering can you only get that many dolls because that's how many dolls you have room for or is there a different reason?
-
I have a 1 doll a year limit and hopefully will not reach that every year! But I am not setting an actual limit. My husband might some day.
Right now I am only collecting historicals (with one AGT from when I was younger), so that does help me keep my limit. But this year's doll was Marisol, so that may change. I have not decided if I am getting into "friends" or not. Or what the criteria will be for whether I get a new LE
There is one AGT I really really want, but I don't have any AGT clothes, and I consider those clothes to have more play value than display value, so as an adult I don't know if I should get her or not. (But she is so beautiful, and so different from my other dolls.)
I also collect Madame Alexanders (though not as addicted) and I can get up to 1 of those a year too.
That was a lot of rambling for a short question. I don't have a limit, but I don't want them to take over my house either. If I lived alone, maybe, but I share it, so I can't do that.

Well, I have decided that my limit on dolls will be 4 now (instead of 3) since I just cannot resist AGT25! I was surprised when she came out that I wanted her so much. I think all the dolls are darling, but this is the only GT that I just *have* to have! As far as historicals, Kirsten remains my top fave, then Felicity and Elizabeth.
My plan is to *someday* have Kirsten and Felicity's complete collections. Lissie's will include E and all her stuff, but who knows about the retired items? I kind of doubt I'll ever get all of those (if I'm able to get any at all). So, I want my historical girls' entire collections and there are a few selected AGT items that I'm sure I'll get.
At the rate it's taking me right now, I know it will be several years before I'll have complete collections. But I'm having fun taking it slowly.

My limit-when they crowd us out of the house. But by then at least a couple of the kids will be off to college and the dolls will just take over their rooms.
Or until DH commits hari-kari

I don't have an upper limit right now. In a one year period, I got 3 dolls. Before that, I had one. So, now I've got 4 and I'm hoping to get AGT25, Kit, and AGT23.

Space is definitely a limiting factor. Also I have other interests that take time so can't manage a big collection of dolls. But I do like a good mix of gals. Which means I can't wait till AG makes an Asian doll that looks different than the current one. And I want a curly hair true-redhead with freckles. And ADDY ADDY ADDY! Well, then it would be fun if AG made some International Friends. Which means I'd buy one of everything.

I have no limit. I have 5 now, and should have 7 by the end of the year. I've sort of gotten into this pattern of two a year, buying one for myself, and asking for another for Christmas. I have a feeling that will change when I go to AGPLA next year, when I intend to buy Addy and someone else, probably either Jess or an AGT.
Space isn't really an issue for me. I live at home, still, and don't really intend to move out until I finish college, so, even if I end up with more dolls than I have room for before then, I'll just box them up, because when I move out there *will* be more space for them. However, right now, they're all on the hutch on my desk. I don't think more than 7 dolls are going to fit there, so I really might have to resort to something else in a year.
I really don't want to set a number limit, especially now, as I know I'll be in a place of my "own" in a few years. I hate the idea of "well, I can only have -10+ dolls, so if a new one I like comes out, I have to get rid of an old one." The idea just pains me.

I don't have a limit, either, at least until DH says "ENOUGH!!" (As long as they aren't in his way, though, I think I can have as many as I can make room for, before he cracks .)
Right now I have 10, and I know of at least 3 more that I want; I may sell 1 or 2 (such as a Mattel Samantha to make room for a PM Samantha), but if I don't want to, I won't.
The way I see it, I'm a grownup(old enough to be one, I mean ), and I can have as many dolls as I want, as long as I pay for them with my own money.
Perhaps that sounds a tad selfish, but I've spent the last 23+ years raising my DS's and making sure they had everything they needed--now 2 are off to college and my youngest is entering his teens, so I figure it's getting to be my turn to have a little fun. Even though my family thinks I've gone wacko !

I am still a kid, so I can only really get a new doll for Christmas or my birthday. So far I kind of have a pattern of getting one doll every two years, but I think that will change after being on this board for so long! LOL! I have started to really want to collect American Girl dolls, outfits, accessories, and furniture, to display proudly in my bedroom! Hee-hee ! If I get good grades this marking period, and don't miss any days of school, then my dad is planning on rewarding me, and I am going to ask him for Nellie. Then, at Christmas, I am going to *hopefully* get AGT22. Then I am going to ask for another doll for my birthday in February. WHEW! I am DEFINETELY going to break the chain! LOL! Well, to actually answer the original question, I do not have any kind of limit. In fact, I plan on collecting AG stuff until they go out of business! Which, at the rate the items are selling, will be never!

Hmm. I don't know. I am really happy w/ the girls I have now. Seems like I've averaged a new girl every two years since I got back into collecting.
However, I would like a mint-ish PM Molly. Currently tracking ebay to develop an idea of a good price. If I can't find one in the kind of condition/price range I want, I might just buy her new from AG.
After a PM Olly-Molly, Jess is a possibility if I like her. As are Nellie, Kirsten, AGOT 23, and Kit. Josefina, maybe, because in a few years I might really be missing NM and want her around to remind me of the Land of Enchantment.
If they come out with a brand new historical, I might get her, too.
I want to get into accessories and furniture, and I feel guilty about those unless my girls have their 6 book outfits first.
Someday, my dream is to be stupid and disgustingly rich enough to call up AG place and order a complete collection for a historical.
