What's your favorite and worst part about the AG CLUB?

My favorite? The points (stars) my daughter can earn and get AG Club stuff! Some of the activities have really bonded us as mother and daughter and given us some fun and memorable times together. I owe AG for that!!!!

And also, being able to have access to newly released items first. Love that fun feature!

But the 'find a friend' thing is really irritating me. First of all, my daughter will make great effort to find a friend, be very cordial and polite, always ask atleast one quesiton to keep the conversation going but the girls don't often continue to write back after the 1st email.
Secondly, my daughter got a SPAM email today in the club! It said something like 'My daddy died in the world trade center and please give money' . I couldn't believe an adult would pay the $$ to join the Club and falsely pose as a child to be able to send junk emails to these little girls. Ridiculous. And it was very obviously written by an adult.
I'm just glad I am able to intercept her messages and decide whether she gets them or not!

We too love the stars! We didn't get Elizabeth so getting that first was no big deal plus this board gives the best previews around. DD doesn't keep up with the message board at all. After hearing things like your message I'm kinda gald. She plays some of the games but the ones on the regular AG games are fun too. There's really nothing about the club I don't like but the stars are the best!

All this is good to know. I've been debating about whether to join or not. My DD is just 6yo. Is there a lot for a child of this age to do on the website? I was leaning towards joining it right now just for the perks.

my DD loves it. she has made a few reliable email pals but most didn't write back at the beginning. You've got to keep trying different girls and she will "click" with a few eventually. I had a few emails I deleted, asking personal questions right away (what's your name, age, or telling her they would be her best friend forever in the first email-be wary of those).
She's had fun playing the games, collecting treasures, and doing star projects. Overall it's great.

I have deleted almost all of the messages. The chain mail is horrible. ALmost all of the kids want to know your real name and age. I can't believe how many parents are not montioring their kids.
The stars are great and DD loves the games. AG needs to do something about the messaging.

I dont think its cool that adults cannot join the club, have a seperate area where its for parents and children and the just have a seperate area for adults to chat and want to get to know eachother as well and make friends with other AG Collecters like themselves. Also adults who join the club sgould be able to collect stars and use them as well and partipate in teh actvties the same as children. I wish I could join the club. [img]frown.gif[/img]

My dd's LOVE the stars. My older dd is playing with her doll much more than before, and she'll even do things with my younger dd. My younger dd is reading books to get stars, also a major triumph! [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img] Even better, I can reward them with stars for doing things I wouldn't feel right about "paying" them for. (ie: a good attitude, a nice gesture, character trait development)

Why does everyone think it's so bad for a kid to ask another kid their first name and age? Ok...I can see not asking about addresses, last names, parent's names, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. I've got all that stuff set up in the filter so my dd's can't send it. But what's wrong with knowing someone's first name and age?

My 8yo doesn't have much in common with 12 or 13 yo's. My 12 yo was writing to a girl for a while who (on her fav's page) said she was 12. When she started writing about her boyfriend, dd asked how old she was. She replied she had just turned 15! I'm glad she asked! I nixed the contact.

I think knowing a little about someone (not enough to locate them) tells you if you have things in common that you can talk about.

Since we (parents) can read all of the mail back and forth, what's the problem with having a name and age? [img]graemlins/hmmm.gif[/img]

My problem with the name and age is that what if the person isn't a child. Name and Age first - then they start asking where you are from. We have gotten so many kids in the club telling us their age, city, state, school etc. I am just wondering if their parents know this.

It doesn't take long before someone can actually find your child. I guess today you can never be to safe.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Great point. It is weird to have to deal with all of this with such a young child, so Kym's points are great! That said, I would not want my 7yo corresponding with an older child, as mentioned. Hmmmmm.

Lisa--I've also been pondering joining for my just-turned 7 year old. I posted a thread last week or so asking about it, and got some good feedback. I definitely am going to join, but I think it will be part of her Christmas gift.

I also love the idea of rewarding her with stars for behavior traits.
