Was it Steve Gadd or Harvey Mason drumming on the Mad Hatter version of this?

When Chick and Gadd hooked up on Humpty Dumpty that was when Gadd hooked me. Listening to that track for the first time was pure joy. When a drummer can play something so deep that you get teared up about it is a special moment that stays with you. The next phase of that period with Gadd and Chick was the "Friends" album. That is a moment in pure magical chemistry that is very deep to me. There have been a few albums and live gigs that I've experienced that brought on that emotion. Another full album like that for me is Tony Williams "Believe It!" and Weather Reports "Heavy Weather". Just incredible feel and soul in those recordings. I'm sure everyone here has favorite recordings that have burned a time line in their history......

Oh yeah! Chick Corea's Friends album was and is an amazing piece of work. Steve Gadd's drumming is awesome throughout the entire album.

I think it was also the first Chick Corea album I ever bought as I was just getting into Gadd back then. It's still one of my all time favorites!

Another album around that time was Chick Corea's Three Quartets - with Eddie Gomez on bass, and Steve Gadd... I had the LP forever, and just a few years ago bought the cd version because it had a few "extra" tracks that Chick explained was due to the fact that they had lots of studio time remaining from the session bookings. There's some great previously unreleased material on the cd version!

When you listen to Dave Weckl's interpretation of Humpty Dumpty on Acoustic Band Alive, or even Vinnie's on Chick's Live in Tokyo it sounds very good; but Gadd's musical genius on this track is untouchable.

On Friends, saxophonist Joe Farrel(sp?) plays with such depth and warmth, unbelievable...

You probably know that Chick plays the drums on one of the extra tracks on Quartets.

The thing that I love about that track is the fact that the chorus is a 10 bar phrase. Soloing over a 10 bar phrase feels so STRANGE!
