Wow good catch.
I'll try to seed this for the week.
Can you maybe create one Dime thread for several Dime things? Like NEW DIME WITH VINNIE AND DENNIS or something? Instead of seperate topics? Thanks!
yeah i cant wait to get this...i have yet to ever hear blue tav so this should be a good introduction hopefully
(Commentary as I listen...)
Wow this is such a typical L.A. wank fest. These gigs usually suck with pretty much any other drummer. Know why?
Listening to wank is boring unless you're a genius. But I myself like wanking so I can only hope it's not terribly boring for others. Kinda sucks.
First track..
I swear nobody can subdivide as creatively as Vinnie does. Any tempo and he can blow it double time. Or a 1/3 time even. Thats why these gigs are fun to listen to for me. 20 minute versions of Splatch are good because of the interaction during the solos. This is where Vinnie shines. Any other typical LA guys are boring on these gigs (except Novak maybe). It really is just an excuse to blow, the head is pretty much ireelevant. During Altered rehearsals we discuss trying not to be a band that has tunes that are vehicles for soloing. We don't succeed all the time, but we try. Interaction can be fun with guys that have some depth to their vocabulary. They don't repeat themselves often and their ideas are interesting. How many guys can you say that about these days? Christ, a lot of guys don't interact at all.
(12:30 into the second track is the harshest hi-hat poly-rhythm raping ever BTW.)
Hmm...the 3rd track is just the best part of the 2nd track repeated.
Track 4 is "Nothing Personal". Imagine my surprise. I genuinely feel sorry for Gary Willis at this point. Vinnie's not being very..helpful.

5th tune appears to be a swing tune. I don't really care for Vinnie's swing playing other than the wow factor of his independence. His time playing within a swing context doesn't make me stomp my foot on 2 and 4 like Erskine or Tain. When the time is settled and WELL ESTABLISHED, it swings. Vinnie doesn't really do that on this stuff. On the Waldman stuff either in my opinion. I wonder how that Quincy Jones Big Band thing is he's on. That might be swingin'.
Willis is taking a solo on this one finally. He sounds good and Vinnie isn't stepping all over it surprisingly.
Uh oh...they're trading now. Oh my God what's happening right now. OH NO WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. Holy shit nice flam phrasing on the last trade.
OK last track. Half-time back beat thing. I smell alot of 32nd notes in the future.
OK 7:34-39. Someone wanna explain what the hell that was please.

haha i enjoy some "musical masterbation too" basically 90% of my cds are fusion but i am trying to get some other stuff...slowly purchasing some old jazz stuff!
Still...this "musical" blowing does something for me emotionally..it actually makes me get really hyped and happy...
Thanks for the insight though! its not often we get a long post from you!
Right S.P.The length of the post actually shows how much Steve enjoyed the bootleg,otherwise he wouldn't have bothered writing such a long review.
BTW,it's very enjoyable to read you Steve.Not so often tho' but yet really interesting to get to know how you react to some music.Not that i think you don't at all,but you don't really share your thoughts about it.
Can't wait to hear your next review.
Hi.
I have an account in DD, and I want to share in Dimeadozen a concert I recorded in 1999: Dave Weckl Band (minidisc microphone recording)
Well, I have all the audio in differents tracks (wave). They tell that they don?t allow zip or rar files, so...
* * * * * * * * * *** * * * *
how can I pack all the tracks in just ONE file, allowed by DD?
* * * ** * * * * * * * * * * *
I know how to join all the tracks in one wave file, but I think it could be a better way.
Any help?
I think with Dime, people just submit the entire uncompressed folder with the wave or equivalent files in it as a .torrent. I really don't understand their pretentiousness with file compression.. no archives, no mp3s, no mpeg video, people even submit screenshots as bitmaps and not JPEGs
Hi Guys,
Well, there is another way than Dime for listenning this concert please ?
I cannot log on Dime so if somebody can put some track at Yousendit.com or...
Thanks.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Just convert you .wav file to .flac file, download the free Flac software here http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.htmlQuote:

Choose "encode" on Flac software that's all, then share it on Dime, don't forget to add a .txt file with all the info you have of this Live
If you don't more technical help don't hesitate to ask
