hey man...
nice soloing...cool ideas.
may i make a small comment...
i really wanted to hear some groove between the chops...make my foot tap and my head nod...then...when you pull out the chops...it has a foundation and really states the time.
i saw the steve jordan with john mayer trio and
jordan did a groove solo... brilliant!!..and he has chops..trust me..
dont underestimate groove and pocket...
lol...i guess what im sayin is...i would rather make a sexy woman dance..lol.
try a groove solo...4 on floor even...trust me. there are tons of things you can do to challenge your chops.
i heard some vinnie in there...take a listen to "jennifer Warnes - First We Take Manhattan".
...one of my fave vinnie trax.
so simple but not...and so musical.

Thanks for the comment! I totally get what you are saying. I was in such a rush, and had finished laying down some grooves. I kinda did'nt want to play them after an 8 hour session. I just wanted to cut loose.

I used a 6 1/2 x 14 Birch Pearl Snare Drum for the sessions . With a Sm 57 for the top and a Audix I5 for the buttom. The snare had abit of tape on it too get rid of some of the overtones. Hope this helps Donu!!!

Great drum sound (not thrilled about the cymbals, JMHO). Great chops and lots of good musical phrasing. I would love to hear your stuff in the context of a groove rather than just freeform. But, I think we all can relate to the urge to "just cut loose" after a groove session.

I come to this forum almost everyday. Love it,very informative. Well I had 10 mins left of studio time so I just kinda tracked 2 drumsolos. They were'nt planned, everthing was just off the top of my head. I managed to play some blushda's!!! Thanks Mr.Holmes!!

Thanks for the comments guys. I used a Dw Birch Kit Standard sizes. 10,12,14,16 18 x 22 bass drum. The Mics that were used are Audix D series. And sm 57's for top and buttom snare. As for Preamps the whole set was Digidesign using Protools. An Avalon was used for the top snare mic. Hope this helps. And some tape was used to control some of the sustain of the toms and snare. The drums sound great, man. If intended as a chops-showcase, it hits the mark. Nice Blushdas. If intended as a solo piece of music -- think about how you could make it interesting to non-drummers. Some of the suggestions above are on the mark. The bottom line for me is that belief that people like to feel a groove while they are hearing musical ideas being expressed...
