I know it's been mentioned here before, but as it's official on the site now, would love to know opinions of the name change, which is probably partly the reason for the Box change on the Today items.
Personally, I'm not thrilled with it, because besides Felicity, none of my dolls look anything like me and I'm not interested in getting a redheaded Today doll. I liked it better as American Girl Today, because it could be a friend you are picking out, not a "twin".

I don't like that they changed it, but I can see a girl thinking her story can be the same as mine....

You know what's funny? It says "Just Like You Dolls" but when you click on it and read the item, you are still purchasing an "American Girl of Today doll" so I guess they haven't updated that yet.
I don't like the new name. Neither of my AGOTs look anything like me- none of them do. I didn't intend to have them look like me. They definitely don't dress like me, or have the same kind of stuff I have.

I don't like the new name. None of them are just like me. Not even close.
I also really wish they still came with a book to write.

That's true, none of the dolls look like me. I have wavy/curly light brown/dark blonde hair with a reddish tint, and none of them even come close to having that. I have some blonde hair brown eyed dolls, because I like that combo and had blonde hair as a little girl, but none of the current dolls are "like me" at all.

It's funny, but the new name kinda bothers me as well. There is not a doll that looks like DD at all...coloring wise, much less hair type. She loves her historical dolls, but really "plays" with the GT dolls. Most of them are named after friends or teachers that mean a lot to her...so in her case, the new name doesn't fit at all. I do wonder why they changed it...maybe new things are on the horizon....

I dont like it either , personally I dont think its fair for little girls who cant find a doll that looks like them... the only doll that even closely resmembles my DD is Marisol, my daughter looks all italian she has olive skin deep brown eyes and the same color hair as her. Her friend keeps looking for a doll that looks like her and they dont have one , American Girl of Today sounds so much better and more appropriate. JMO

Bad move and I wouldn't be surprised if they do change it back eventually or come up with a third name.

I personally like the fact that girls can get a doll that's just like them. The doll may not be one hundred percent like them, looks wise, but it can still reassemble them. AGoTs (as I still call the dolls!) are alternatives to My Twinns. My AGoT 21 does reassemble me in looks and personality. My AGoT 7 mostly reassembles my friend, as Ruthie was my friend's doll to begin with. If I get another AGoT, she won't be exactly like me, but she's still my doll, it's only natural that she'll be a little like me anyway. And most of the time, the AGT clothes that are picked out by girls are picked out because they themselves like that clothes style.

If I recall correctly, they were initially called the "Just Like me" doll line. It doesn't matter which way they choose but I too wonder if they will do something else different to that line other than just change the name. Let's hope for the better... Ash.
