I told myself that I wouldn?t get caught up in trying to buy everything before it was retired. I wouldn?t worry everytime someone said stock was low. I almost called AGPC to see if they had the caf? apron set. I didn?t do it. I don?t need everything. It won?t kill me to miss something.
Now, just a rumor that Molly?s camp outfit might disappear. Well my ?complete? collection is a vision of every ?core? outfit. It would have been completed long ago if I had just stuck to that, but I never though we would even have to worry about them disappearing so I bought other things as well. Well with that rumor, I thought about it for a night, realized I would be devestated if I didn?t get it (it?s always been one of my favorite stories and outfits, I don?t know why I didn?t get it before) so this morning I coded it with Kirsten?s Red Boots.
Gosh I hope it isn?t retiring, but if they are messing with the ?core? collections, which the new Meet dress for Felicity shows they are, I better start finishing getting those outfits now.
So now I have to get: School Dresses for Josefina, Samantha, Kit and Molly; Christmas dress for Addy; Summer Outfits for Josefina, Addy and Kit; Winter Outfits for Josefina, Addy, Samantha, Kit and Molly.
I think I am going to put Samantha?s Cape and Gaiters at the top of the list, it worries me about her holiday coat. (Which I don?t like at all. The travel duster, or Nellie?s coat are both much better, and the orignial cape the best, IMO)
Until I get these dresses, I can?t stray and buy other things, except Jess, which means I might miss things. But the core collection is the most important to me. I really hope they don?t mess with it though.
I wasn't supposed to buy from AG this month. I wanted to take a break. It was worth it to not miss the Molly outfit, right?

skittl: be glad you got the outfit, it is very cute, and you would be very disappointed "if" it does get retired.
When I joined the board almost two years ago, other board members suggested buying the outfits that you would definitely miss if they were gone. At the time, I thought I only wanted a "complete" collection for Molly, because she is the same age as my mother. Turns out, I'm on my way to several complete collections, but that's another story! Anyway, even back then there were rumors about the Aviator's outfit or the tap outfit, etc, so I bought them a few every other month when I could. I also got any accessories that I could. To me, the accessories are just fabulous, and add a lot of meaning to the stories as well.
Although I like (and have) a lot of the Today Outfits, they will come and go. I was quite surprised when the Chocolate Cherry outfit for 18" dolls was taken off the web so suddenly. I called a PS in Chicago and did get one for myself and a friend, but I had resigned myself not to get all freaked out over it either. The same thing with two of the Hopscotch Hill outfits that were sold out before I bought them. Had all the time in the world...but you know we buy other things too...like food!
I think you're taking the right approach and concentrate on those items that you would really miss if they were gone that are central to the Historical figures. Good luck and have fun (!) in your AG collecting,
Laurie

Rumors are bad, but they can be good, too. Just think, you got an outfit you liked, and you saved a couple of bucks, too.
And the good thing about ebay and the resources on this board is that we won't really ever totally miss anything. When Addy's Cape May dress disappeared, I was able to get it for only a few dollars more, NIB, from an ebay seller.
Dianasmom has a great idea--buy first what you think you'd really really miss. I always loved Addy's striped dress, so it was on my purchase list soon anyway, so since it's on sale, I bought it (and it might be my last chance).

You won't be sorry about buying Molly's camp outfit. It is so much cuter once you actually see it on your doll.
I know what you mean about rumors. You really have to be careful and stick to what you really want. I used to order something everytime I saw a post here mentioning the possibility of retirement. I ended up with things we never even wanted. Fortunately I have been able to use items in my "stash" for my daughter's friends' birthdays.
