My friend bought a Samantha on ebay. The seller told her it is a PM Samantha. My friend was worried she had made a mistake in buying it, but I told her that it's okay.
Can anyone give me a good explanation of what this is. I know it's pre-Mattel. Will the body necessarily be white? I think I read it is supposed to be a bit softer. What about the hair? Eyes? What should she look for to verify what she has?
Also - she needs to send it in to the doll hospital for some repair, does she need to specify that she wants to keep the original body?
Thanks for any info you can provide!

Soften vinyl, softer eyelashes, fatter body, fatter face, & no body tag can all be signs of a PM doll

The body will not necessarily be white. I have 5 PM tan body dolls.
I reccommend telling the people at AG exactly what you want if you send it to the hospital...better safe than sorry...especially with a PM doll...
Good luck with everything!

Hi, hope this helps. Also check out this site. http://curtdanhauser.com/AG_Collecting/Main.html
Samamtha introduced in 1986. Samantha with Molly and Kirsten were the first 3 dolls made in Germany. Between 1986 and 1990 they had white bodies. These dolls have a shine look to their faces. The cheeks are a bit fuller and the hair is just a shade or so lighter. Their eyelashes are long and soft. The have slightly plumper bodies. (The 1986/87 (not sure about 1988-90) Molly's glasses did not have lenses.)
In 1991 when Felicity was introduced the bodies of the dolls all changed to tan bodies. Felicity from this time had redder hair and fuller faces with plumper bodies also. But they do not, so far, have the shine look the other three have.
Both the white and the older tan bodies dolls have an artist mark behind their right ear. There is some thing about how the Pleasant Company copyright is stamped that shows the age of the dolls. Sometimes the c with a circle is above the P and sometimes beside the P. I have heard the C above shows age. Don't know for sure. Also the size of the Pleasant Company and if it arches some people say tell the age of the doll, again I am not sure.
Sometime during the mid 90's (I have read 1994)the dolls started being made in China from then on. I am also guessing it was at this time that the hair, face, body shape changed just slightly. The eyelashes are now stiff and cut blunt cut.
Hope I got the dates right.

Okay, I know some people specifically want to find PM dolls. Do they have a higher value? Just curious about how that all works or maybe it is just a collecting thing.
Thanks for all the great info so far!

They have a higher value for someone who wants them. It's just because AG has changed some of the ways that they manufacture the dolls and how the dolls look. Some people like the older dolls better than the newer ones. I like different things about both.
