Hi all, this is my first ever post meaning I'm obviously brand new on here. Another drummer friend of mine recommended this site as a good source for drum knowledge regarding gear, playing technique and just other general info about various players and styles. I'm very happy to now be on board!
A little background about myself. I am in my late twenties and have been playing drums since about the age of seven. Believe it or not my first drum set ever was a black "pre tuned", (awfull) 5 piece kit made by Remo. Unfortunately I grew up very poor, in fact I was bounced around to carious section 8 government housing after my parents were split up around the time I was nine.
My next kit believe it or not didn't come untill I was a young teenager around the age of Forteen. It was a no name Jap. kit from the late Sixties. I'm not sure who made them but the originalm bass dryum head said Dixie drums. The hardware on this one was all rusted and coroded. It sounded like crap but at least it was better to have a kit that I could actually tune. I guess you could say my first ever "real sort of legit kit" was when I was able to purchase my friends old beat up Pearl Export kit. I bought it late in High school with money I earned at one of my first ever Jobs. I may have been 16 or 17, I can;t remeber. All I know is by this time I was really starting to hone in on my craft. Around 18 I one my first ever drum competion at my local guitar center. It was after that, that I was asked to join this afro beat batalion. And as luck would have it around this time due to unseen child support funds I was awarded a lump sum of money. And with that money I pretty much could have purchased just about any drum kit out there. And the set I ended up choosing was Koala which is a very small hand mad german company. I had some hand drum percussion stuff by them and I really liked the quality so I asked them if they woul make me a 4 piece kit. Originally they were reluctant but once I waved the cash out there they were cool. I don't mind sharing with you, the kit cost me rioughly around $3,800 which in my mind seemed a little steep for a 4 piece kit, but as I tought about it seeing that they were hand made and being imported from Germany began to really appreciate it.
I'm looking forward to meeting other like minded drummers on here and once I figure out how to post a picture I will show off my awesome hand crafted drum kit.
By the way the finish on mine is called sonic blue. Mine looks so amazing, some drum friends of mine even tried to have them make them the same drums but the company said no that it was a one off thing and tha they aren't in the kit making bussiness and that they want to stay primarily in the hand drum arena, but trust me if you flash enough dough in front of them I'm sure they will make you whatever you want,
Peace,
