I am thinking more and more about our trip to LA since it is only 6 weeks away!!!
Anyway, it is at the end of our month long holiday to Canada so we will be there for a couple of days and then heading back to Australia.
My daughter and I plan on buying a total of two dolls and probably about 4 - 6 outfits. So here is my query.
1. Do I keep the boxes thereby having to find another suitcase to pack them in.
2. Throw away the boxes and pack everything in amongst our stuff.
3. Throw away the boxes and take the dolls on the plane keeping in mind that it is about 15 hours and we will want to sleep and eat (and I don't want to store the dolls in the hold with someone elses luggage)
What do you recommend? Anyone been in the same boat as me? It's making me think that I am better off making one big order from Australia and having it all shipped over here in one lot since I may have to buy an extra suitcase to take it all home in anyway.

I've been in a similar situation like you, Juliette. The first time I bought two dolls at AGPNY, kept them in the boxes and managed to put these two in my suitcase. I even kept the accessories/outfit boxes and managed to get them neatly stucked in the suitcase - together with the other bits and pieces I bought on my first New York trip.
Last autumn I bought 3 dolls - took them out of their boxes and fit them into my suitcase plus the 'tons' of outfits I bought - didn't keep the boxes either. I bought these vaccuum bags at Walmart, where you let out the air and these were great. I left a huge pile of empty boxes in the hotel - but I fit everything into my suitcase including all the new clothes I bought for myself. I did however arrive with a very empty suitcase from Austria - the lady at the check-in in Vienna even commented on it. When I said I was going to do all the shopping in the US she laughed and said "Good idea!"
You might need a new suitcase or bag for the dolls and supplies you might/will buy, but I think it's still cheaper than having to pay all the shipping and customs if you have the order shipped.
Have a great time on your journey!
ETA: If you don't intend on selling the dolls, then I wouldn't keep the boxes.
