I wonder about this a lot too.
After the initial "I need more information to present to our lawyers" email I have not heard anything else from the woman at Mattel. The first email took about a month to get a reply to, but it has been longer than that.
I have given up the effort as lost, and posted to this effect last month, but will let anyone know if I hear anything else.
I was really hoping you would hear back from them. I can't see the harm in a swap since the company no longer sells the patterns. I really wish they would bring them back, and include the newer girls too.
Thanks for looking into this. I must have missed your post about it. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. I would love to trade for ones I don't have. I've wanted to make outfits for DDs and can't afford the prices the patterns are bringing now.
Thanks again,
Stacird
The biggest problem probably in their minds is that any permission they give might cause their patterns to fall into "public domain," which they wouldn't want.
Additionally, the designs are still used in present clothing for AG dolls. If the patterns were widely distributed, talented seamstresses might make very similar clothing to the official AG clothing, and sell it. AG would lose money if this were to happen.
The good news is that there are a lot of patterns out there that look like official AG clothing. It's difficult since you have to imagine the fabrics in different colors, but there are many that are really, really close. Here are a couple examples:
Vogue 7514 is a generic copy of Kit's clothing. They have her meet skirt, winter coat, and pajamas.
McCall 3627 is Felicity-esque patterns; one (view FGH, bottom right of pattern) looks like her Christmas gown, but is in two pieces (top and skirt). If you imagine it in blue, you'll see Felicity's dress!
How about writing to companies like Vogue, Simplicity, and McCall's and asking for more era-specific patterns? It's pretty obvious where they're getting their inspiration for some of these!
By the way, Skittl1321, I think it's a great idea. Thanks for all your hard work with this. I hope they at least do finally send a response.

I was wondering . . .
Would those of you who sew like to have a page listing all of the in print patterns out there that are close to AG's? Or we could just have a thread about it, although without a sticky it would be hard to find. I'd be happy to put a list on my website if you gals help me!
