Hi Guys, this question sounds so simple I'm quite ashamed to be asking it. I've used several previous incarnations of Adobe's editing software, and in it's past lives Premiere has allowed you to manipulate the volume of a piece of audio as time progresses, by selecting the clip, bringing up a red horizontal line, along the waveform, and creating your own peaks and troughs, whereever you want the volume to change. I've tried to do this in premiere, without success. I'm sure there must be a much more ergonomic way to perform this very simple task in Pro, but I can't find it. Help. Thanks.

In premiere pro, this is done using a software emulation of a mixing desk. Click window>audio mixer if the mixer is not present when you start premiere. For detailed instructions on how to use the mixer, I suggest you read the premiere pro help file. It?s not quite as straight-forward as the ?rubber band? method that you?re used to, but it offers the user a far greater level of control and will give you something of a grounding in the methods employed by sound professionals to edit/mix movie sound.

Thanks Peter, I'll check that out now.

Surely Premiere Pro hasn't dumped manual rubber-banding in favour of automation only?!
Software companies really should steal more ideas from Sony Vegas IMO. It's the only NLE that treats audio as 50% of your production. Probably because Vegas used to be an audio only app way-back-when.

You can still do the rubber band thing with the volume.
In the timeline window you have the menu on the left for each individual video and audio track. Move you cursor over the small boxes on the audio track menu - a little text box should pop up under your cursor telling you what each one does.
Click on the one that says show keyframes, then click on show click volume. You then need to add keyframes for the volume by clicking on the small diamond with the arrows either side of it.
Then you can adjust the (now yellow) volume band like you could in previous versions.
Hope that makes sense.

Cheers, that was exactly what I was after. Thanks.
