I'll wager good money that the kid can't read, write or do basic math. LOVE the gubmint skools!

I'm further impressed that the mother in is quoted in the article that she has to "pay bills". I don't know about the rest of you, but it takes us about 10 minutes every week. I guess for her it's a full time job. Not being able to read and all that...

It could also be because of the month the kid was born in. I was born in December so I missed the cut off to start school so I was held back a year. I was 16 in 10th grade myself.

I'm more like Gae in the age aspect (as far s high school goes)
I graduated when I was 17 due to a summer birthday.


Maybe they should just wait til he's 18 then take him straight to a recruiting office and sign him up for military service!

If the parents are actually trying, this punishment seems a little severe. Hopefully the kid cares enough about his mom to actually keep her out of jail by going to school. Guessing that's probably not the case here though.

16 in 10th grade is not the same as 16 in the 9th grade, Beach. That means you were 18 when you got your dipolma.

The mom in the article is in trouble because the kid is truant. I doubt that has anything to do with his birthdate. I think it has more to do with the mom being too busy counting her food stamps and such. We each have only so many fingers and toes.

This reminds me of the story of the 19 year-old 8th grader.
He was driving a 80's beater to school (for Becky that would be 1982 Dodge Dart).
Anyway, he showed up one day with a piece of plywood where his passenger window had been. When asked what happened, he responded, "I locked the keys in the car, so I busted out the window with a brick."
A week later, he showed up at school with a piece of plywood covering the back window.
When asked what happened, he said, "Oh, I locked the keys in the car again."

This would be Becky logic...

One of the things I found particularly amusing is a comment made by a reader in the comments section of the article that said just to call the police and have them escort the child to school.

Heres a bulletin for all of you who think that is a solution: DON'T!!!!!

I've got WAY better and more important matters to deal with then to transport your brat to school. We are not a taxi service, a day care, or social worker.

Bottom line in my opinion is this problem with junior began WAY before his 16th birthday. Mom clearly didn't teach him accountability, responsibility, or manners.

Consequently I will end up dealing with him, probably in the very near future.

After reading the article, I don't see where there's much more the mother could do. She was taking him to school and watching him enter the building. After she'd leave, so would he.

Throw his juvy butt in jail! Make him attend classes from the inside.
