Texans talking about trading top draft pick

INDIANAPOLIS -- Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush might not land with the Houston Texans after all.

Texans general manager Charley Casserly said Sunday the Texans have been talking to teams about possibly trading the first pick in the 2006 draft.

It has been widely speculated that the Heisman Trophy winning running back out of Southern California would end up with the Texans because they recently gave quarterback David Carr a three-year contract extension.

The Texans, who finished 2-14 last season, have multiple needs that might be filled with one major move.

"There's clearly players at the top of this draft that are marquee players," Casserly said. "Players that are impact players, players that are going to go to the Pro Bowl, players that are going to sell tickets. We're going to get offers for this pick. We've already had discussions with teams. I think there's value in our pick.

"Whether it's Reggie Bush, Vince Young or Matt Leinart, those three players are going to produce trade offers. We are definitely going to have some choices when it comes to draft day."

I hope they do this and take Vince Young. That way once Young flops, which he will, they can still hold on to that prestigous title as "the laughing stock of the NFL".

Every team tries to drum up talks that they're going to trade the pick even if they KNOW they're not going to, just to see if there's a deal out there that another team will be dumb enough to make just to get the #1 overall pick.

why would they take any qb at all, if they just resigned Carr to a 3 year deal? If I was Carr I would be the one begging to be traded. He needs time to actually develop, instead of taking a 3 step drop back, ducking, rolling out, and then getting sacked for a 8 yard loss before his receivers even get off the line of scrimmage.

If I were the Texans I would be drafting some O-Lineman to protect Carr.

Its pretty obvious they are just throwing this around to see what they could get.

One of the things they really should look into is maybe switching spots with a team thats in the top 4 or 5, get their first this year, and a 1st and 3rd next year, maybe another mid round pick this year and select Ferguson. The dude is just beautiful to watch, I would be shocked if he didnt play at least a solid left tackle for 10 years in the nfl.

I think they can fill the o-line needs through free agency. One lineman can make all the difference in the world. Case in point, the bears moved Tait from right to left tackle, changed their offense to a new offense and ended up giving up about 40 less sacks. I think Kubiak's brilliance on offense will help them scheme away from giving up so many sacks. They just need a guy or two to anchor the line. Keep in mind too, they have the 1st pick of the second round and can land a guy like Whitworth, Winston, Colledge, McNeil or Max Jean Gilles pretty easily. I think only Ferguson and Winston Justice will be off the boards in round 1.
