Has anyone heard anything about the status of the realignment of the districts? Is it a go and if so which district will be on top to rep SW Va.

It is a go ....for 2007-08.
06-07 will be the same as last year
IMHO the (New Highlands?) district will be tough in all sports and will probably rule the roost in Baseball and most girls sports. The Cumberland will get tougher in most sports with the addition of Coeburn (I look for them to be the Cumberland Football champs within 3 years of joining the Cumberland) BDD (No change) LPD (Losing GC hurts as far as success after Regional however it did seem that the quality of MOST LPD teams dipped when GC entered the district (No clue why) maybe there leaving will have the opposite effect (Or it could just be part of the small school cycle LOL)
The biggest changes will be #1) No more byes in Regional play for turnamate sports and #2) How will the Rye Cove rule be done with Lee being a single A team with AA numbers Will the rule be done away with and all new added schools be Div 2 or will the 50% enrolment be judged from the Largest Legit A school (Va High) allowing Clintwood and Haysi to drop to Div 1 of will the 50% mark be based on in which case both Honaker and Coeburn could drop as well.
Still a lot of unanswered questions
I had heard the new district was going to be called the Clinch Valley District. A tribute to CVC.
From what I have seen in the past. It has its good points and bad points. This new district does have some powerhouse schools. For instance, in girls sports. This new district will have the 3 dominant softball teams in one district, Va High, Gate City and John Battle. In the past each of these schools have either made it all the way to the state or sub state. Now, 1 possibly 2 will make it out of the region while the other has to sit. What it does in effect is reduce the number of good teams that represent SW Va. On the other hand it will allow schools that never had a chance in the past to advance.
In boys sports, Football will be very interesting. Gate City and Va high should be 1 & 2 every year with Lebanon mixing it up occasionally. Baseball will probably still be ruled by Va High. Basketball will be a toss up.
In essence it will have its good points and bad points. Should be very interesting.
Clinch Valley distric ...I like it.
While I agree GC will clearly be the best football team I think Lebanon will top Va High for #2 most years BUT IMHO Lee is the sleeping giant Sanders is a good coach and if he can get the Penton and Jonesville kids(Parents is probably closer to the truth) to play nice Lee could be the team to beat out of that district year in and year out.
IMHO Baseball the the sport that will she the level of competision at a very high level and I would be suprised if that district does not produce a state baseball champ early on.
Getting the Pennington and Jonesville kids to play nice isn't the problem at Lee. The main problem was just getting the kids out to play. There is a lot of talent walking the halls at Lee High that just doesn't want to get out on the field. That trend seems to be changing over the past few years, however, and with the move to the new district and having more rivalries closer to home, it will only help bring out more kids.
I agree with you though when you say Lee is a sleeping giant. It will only take one or two people in that program to begin to turn it around, and then I believe the other people will follow suit. Lets just hope that Coach Sanders is the person to begin to turn it all around.
I really think that he could be the right person for the Job and IMHO I look for Lee to give Va High a run for there money in the Highlands this year

Actually it is the problem, they can't play nice together so they don't play at all. Lee is a very political county and the party that is power usually are the kids that come out to play and the others don't just out of spite mostly by parents.
I do wish Bobby well at Lee and hope he is able to get something going there. He is a he!! of a coach but he just doesn't play the system the way he should. I have no problem with the way he does things it is his team an he will not be looked at as someone who plays to the powers that be but you have to know how to be your own person and do things your way and still let the powers think that they are something. The best I have ever seen at this was Carl Richards at Coeburn. An easy way to do this is to just let them keep talking and spouting off ideas until they finally hit on what you are wanting to do and then say "Hey that is a good idea let's see what we can do with that." You are doing what you were going to do all along and the big shot thinks that it was all their idea and this keeps the money coming in to run the program. This is just the way things are done till you can get a winning tradition established and then you can tell the powers what will happen and they will do what you say and be kissing your but.
