Javy Lopez
now a Bosox....
too bad I still consider him to be one of the most overrated catchers in the game. I mean this guy had two good offesnive seasons at Atlanta and yet Brave fans talk about this guy parting as if they were losing Johnny Bench.
Dont get me wrong he is still in the top 5 overall, i just wish we were gettin a little more consistancy at the plate. Plus I just wonder what we are gonna do with him when our captain finally comes back. i dont see them trading off vertiek unless javy comes in and puts up huge numbers right away.

Re: Javy Lopez
Javi is a month rental basically. He has caught like 20 games this year. He is not the same catcher he was, his physical skills are nearly gone, and to be honest, he is a guy who finds his name mentioned with steroids. He was the best option out there, he may hang around another year or two, but he's no way in the top 5.
Mauer
Posada
Pudge
McCann
AJ
Tek when healthy
LoDuca
V. Martinez (although not for catching but for offense)
R. Hernadez
Estrada
The Seattle import, Johjima
maybe one or two more
He's serviceable but thats all

Re: Javy Lopez
I'm glad you mentioned steroids. I seem to remember the one great year for Atlanta with 40 or so home runs and then a drastic drop in offense the next year. Once Varitek heals , it's back to the bench for Javy.

Re: Javy Lopez
Very true, it also happnened in a contract year. Javy will also help the Sox though as a backup to Uckelis (sp) at 1B since he has be playing that some in Baltimore.

I am not one of those Braves fans man. That version is not very baseball savy. Javy was a good catcher, much better defensively than offensively in his day IMO. Like you said, 2 good seasons at the plate and other than that, it better be a curve or its a pop up from Javy. He is probably what a .265 lifetime hitter?

Re: Javy Lopez
Here's another Bravo fan that echoes that sentiment as well. When Baltimore signed him I got the strangest craving for a bag of dum-dums.

Re: Javy Lopez
Javy just grounded into a game ending dp, after the Sox had loaded the bases in the top of the 9th. Swung at the first pitch I believe.

Re: Javy Lopez
Javy is still prolly one of my favorite players, but yea he is really overrated and just had those two good seasons at the dish. But like stripes mentioned he was much better behind the plate
