They have about the same amount of players as we do, maybe 51 total. They have a huge center at 6'6" 270 and the rest of the line averages about 230 give or take 5-10 lbs. We probably average 215 across the line, so they definately have the size advantage. Speed wise, we have the advantage there. They are a very disciplined team that doesn't make a lot of mistakes. If we don't make the costly mistakes (like inside our own 20, not punch it in inside the 20, etc) we should be fine.
Are they primarily a run first team? It suprised me how well RR was able to throw on JIB yesterday and how undisciplined they were at times defending the pass. It was something I hadn't seen in the previous 3 games I'd seen them play.
I really don't know a 100%. Rural Retreat has had success throwing the ball on us know for 3 years. That Heldreth kid was a beast yesterday. He was just about all the offense that RR had.
Yep. That qb was great. There would just be plays where there wouldn't be a db within 8-10 yds of a reciever. I hadn't seen them play that way this year.
heldreth has had a heckuva carrer at rural retreat, and is truly a special player. i wasn't sure how well he'd do this year, losing a couple of weapons from his sophomore and junior years (one from graduation and one from a season ending injury in the pre-season). however, he's actually stepped up his game and carried the indians at times this year. they'll really miss him next year, even though they still have some quality players returning.
as far as riverheads goes, i really haven't heard much about them this year. i know personally, i was somewhat looking for william campbell to be around this time of year, and riverheads really stayed under the radar.
best of luck to the raiders next week....bring it back to swva!
Heldreth looked to be the best player on the field yesterday to me. He just wasn't on the best team. I'd love to have him on the team I cheer for.
rr and gw have a pretty heated rivalry, but i would have absolutely loved to have had heldreth wearing maroon and grey. he earned a lot of respect from me as a sophomore. he's just as tough as he is talented. on top of all that, from what i understand, he's just an all around good kid....class act, great reputation, and quite the student. very good grades from what i hear.
he's the kind of kid that defines everything good about a football program.
Some good articles on Riverheads. Got this from a friend. Basically a very well coached team and disciplined team. Likes to run the ball and force turnovers. Has fairly decent size. Plays pretty good defense. Fundamentally pretty sound on offense and defense. Can't let up on them they have some big play potential.
Riverheads vs Sussex. And other articles.
