Jim Grobe to stay at Wake

way to try and take a shot at the SEC, but i think this is more of grobe really liking wheres he at, and how the school treats him.

btw, pretty sure Paul Johnson, navy coach, ends up at GT before the weekend is over.

Grobe was doing a local radio interview early this week and he said Wake treated him and his staff great in every way and that he had plenty of budget and was very happy there .

I would think any coach would jump at a move from Wake to Ark.

Nope, sounds like Grobe used Arkansas to leverage a little more $$ out of Wake.

That seems like the common thing anymore. Get your name mentioned for some job. Then sign a extension and get a raise.

Arkansas is not that good a job IMO. The fans have unreasonable expectations given that so many other SEC schools have recruiting and budgetary advantages. Arkansas has very little in-state talent as opposed to LSU, UF, UGA, Bama and even UT. The Hog fans think they should be challenging for the title every single year.

Compare that to the situation he has at Wake. Being from a small, private university with little football tradition, the fans are ecstatic just to have a winning program and go to any bowl every year. If he went 7-5 every year at Arkansas they would probably run him out of town.

We're starting to see more and more good college coaches stay at lesser-profile, lower-paying jobs instead of jumping at the first opportunity to make more money. Quality of life is more important to some people than money and prestige.

He makes over a million now at Wake so I guess "lower paying" is a relative term .
