According to espn.com Doc Holliday is the favorite of the administration right now but the WVU fan base is putting out an all-out-offensive to push for Terry Bowden.
After seeing this video:

I can see why the fans are pushing for this guy.
Can a fellow WVU fan or old SEC fan spell out for me why this man was fired from Auburn?

Didn't Auburn end up on probation when he left, or was that when he took over from Dye?
Ah well the rumors were that RichRod like to dabble in the cheerleading squad as well haha.
auburn ran the table his first year but couldnt play in a bowl game because of violations from dye.........if i remember correctly he resigned because of an alleged affair with his secretary
they were on probation or about to go on when he took over at AU..he convinced his players to stay and had an undefeated season.
He resigned when he was notified that the same board member that would later try to oust Tubberville from the head spot had offered the head coaching position to one of Bowden's assistants. Still he was 20-1-1 his first 2 seasons as coach at AU..and is 111-53-2 as a head coach. He'd be a damn fine addition to WVUs program.
He's also referred to the chance to "return home" as an HC as his "dream job".
From other accounts I've read he was a master micro manager, he had his hand in everything in a positive way, he was a great at handling PR and coming up with ways to excite the fan base, etc...
Heck I just hope we have a coach soon.

I knew there was probation somewhere around his time at Auburn, but couldn't remember exactly how so.
I looked at some posts on the WVU boards I frequent.
It appears he had some shenanigans with a cheerleader at Auburn and the board was very upset with this. At that point the AD told Bowden that he had already flagged a replacement for the upcoming year, which moved Bowden to quit rather than be fired although it was most certain.
