Double Major

Anybody done this? I'm considering going to school an extra year up here and double majoring in Government (which I am now) and Sports Management. I only lack like 3-4 classes to get a degree in government so I'm going to do that but more and more I want to get involved with sports. I'd really like to go to graduate school and end up as a sports information director or an athletic director. Anybody have any experience in either field? The more government classes I take up here the more I don't wanna make that my career, I'm also becoming more conservative (but thats another topic). I really think sports is something I could get involved with in which I never would get tired going to work.

I got an Economics & Accounting double major. And I gotta tell you, I'm living proof of a sports lover who loves their job and it's not sports related. My advice is two-fold, and isn't really related to Government or Sports Management: first, anytime you can get a double major and you're as close as you are to both--go for it. Secondly, just because you have a passion for something doesn't mean you want to do it as a profession.

You're so close to the double w/the 3-4 classes to go in Government--go on ahead and do go for it. The more degrees you have under your belt, the more fields open up to you when you go looking for a job. Also, multiple degrees show a prospective employer your work ethic isn't lacking. It's really a great way to go.

Also, my passion growing up was science--wanted to be a microbiologist and research disease prevention/cures, and I started out a Bio/Chem double major at UVAW, also working as a lab tech at EMI. Working in a science field at the same time as going to school for it burnt me out on that...so make sure you're not going to get burnt out on dealing with sports (all sports, as you'd be dealing with if you were an SID or AD) because you don't want to lose that passion--I don't think you would, but it's just a word of caution from someone who's been there.

I'm either graduating in the fall with a degree in Philosophy w/ a Communications minor or staying another semester and doing the double major (PHIL & COMM)

i'd say if you're close, and you can afford it, then you might as well go ahead...it can only help

do what makes you happy in life...
you are the only person who matters in the end.

I'll get my business degree in december, and I might stick it out and get a double major, with Economics being my other, or a teaching certification.
