Chicago Cubs make their counter move

The Chicago Cubs have acquired pitcher Rich Harden from the Oakland Athletics in a six-player trade, a day after the rival Milwaukee Brewers landed CC Sabathia.

The Cubs will receive the right-handed Harden and righty Chad Gaudin for pitcher Sean Gallagher, outfielders Matt Murton and Eric Patterson, and minor leaguer John Donaldson.

Harden, scheduled to be a free agent after the 2009 season, is 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts this season.

The oft-injured righty missed a month earlier this season because of a right shoulder strain. It was his sixth trip to the disabled list in his six-year career.

wow the central has had some huge moves

sabathia to the brewers is only a half season rental tho.;

Just what the Cubs need, another injury prone right hander.

if hes healthy hes great.......problem is hes not healthy very often

As good as Harden can be, it's not a bad move. I actually like Gaudin pretty well as well. You know you're not really going to stick it to the A's in too many trades, they are notorious for selling high on players, but the Cubs definitely need to go for it.

I expect them to make another fairly major deal and a few smaller ones before things are said and done.

Well chit...

Hate to see Opie and Patterson go. Patterson was showing signs of being the player his brother could have been.
