Mine- there are many,but 2 stand out as more special,more emotionally-charged than the rest.

#2 Cane's reply on the OSU game today reminded me that we are a brotherhood,the guys who have stuck faithfully by our teams not for just the good,but the bad. Like my friend Brad,I started pulling for The U during the Howard days. The best? Winning those tiles. The worst? Losing to FSU 47-0 when we were riddled due to probation. Alot of "Miami fans" vanished during those days,but how sweet it was when my #2 moment came,watching my Canes thrash Nebraska 37-14 to win yet another National Championship,and securing a long-road taken return to glory. I caught that one with my buddy Roy,who is also a longtime die-hard Cane fan. I gotta admit I was just a bit misty-eyed hat night. Isn't it amazing what kind of emotion and passion that sports can stir in a body's soul?

My number 1? My beloved Indian baseball team has given me many moments,but I gotta say that this year's state champion squad topped them all. Watching my stepdad battle the cancer that would take his life had filled my days with darkness. It had been a long damn time since a smile had come. Watching this team do what I told them that they would do when they were freshmen win it all was special. Alot of haters and doubters wrote the TRIBE off,but those young men were on a mission,and they beat the brakes off the baseball. Looking at my eldest son,arms in the air,fist-pumping,yelling was something I'll never forget. THAT is what he wants someday. I did a fine job of holding the emotion that day until I gathered with Dave Wyrick and he got to me. So many "Kelly faithful" said when Mack Shupe bolted "There's the end of that." Man did Dave slam the door on Mack Shupe that day. I never doubted that we'd see that day,but I sure as heck didn't think it would be so long. Good things come to those who wait though,and like I told the guys,immortality comes when you win the big one. Folks at Ron Turner's barber shop still talk about the Big Red Machine in the 80's,The Birchfield Bombers in the 90's,and they'll be talking about the 2008 title club for years to come.


Your turn guys: we all have some teams to be proud of.

The first time I stepped into FEdEx stadium was the best sports moment for me. Made me tear up.

Being at the MCI April 14, 2003 for MJ's last home game.

Aaron Boones walk-off homer in the 2003 ALCS game against the Sox.

When the Giants knocked off those undefeated Pats in the Superbowl. (not a fan of either, but loved it)

Cowboys comeback win against the Bills last season on MNF.

Junior year beating GC 55-54 after being down by 10 with less than 2 minutes left and sending GC out with a loss in there last regular season game in the LPD and also doing the same in football that year.

Hmmmmm. tough one...

#2...When Boston whipped the Piss outa New York and then swept the Cards in the World series...That was like seing Destiny unravel....

#1...When Dale Jr climbed on top of the #8 in Daytona in July after big Dale was killed there in Feb...If that didn't bring a tear to your eye, your not a sports fan, period....I never really thought Jr would be able to drive again after what happened in Daytona in Feb., I honestly thought he'd be out of the seat by the end of the year...And in all honesty, I think all that stunted his growth as a driver, took the edge off, if you will...But it sure was something when he was in victory lane the first time he seen Daytona after his fathers death....It was almost like Big Dale was there with him...

neutral88 your #1 moment was a great one ...that brought a tear to my eye


#3 Miami Dolphins at New York Jets ...seeing perhaps one of the greatest plays of all time(in my mind anyway)...Dolphins down late in the game, timing running out, the Dolphins rush up the line of scrimmage and Marino signals for the spike, gets the snap does a fake spike and hits Mark Ingram in the endzone to beat those pesky J-E-T-S while the defense stands arounding looking like a bunch of asses and silents the entire Meadowlands crowd


#2 My junior year football ...beating Powell Valley 30-28, catching the 2 point coversion that put us up to seal the victory and being Coeburns first win over PV since 1991 and the 91 season was the first victory for Coeburn over PV in 27 years and it hasn't happened again since 01 ...not too many Blue Knights that can say they took PV down AND took em down at the Bullit ...remember seeing Phils comments in the paper "NOBODY has ever done that to us here"


#1 Going to my first Florida-UT football with my best friend who is no longer here with us, he passed away last summer Aug.21 he was a HUGE UT fan and me a HUGE Gator fan ...he talked trash to me all week long before the game, we had great seats too, on the first row down in the endzone...me being the only Gator fan within sight and catching hell all game long, but got the last laugh as Florida prevailed 21-20 en route to the National Championship

I'd have to say the two state championship teams I've been actively involved with:

2002 Girls Basketball
2008 Baseball

Both teams were talented but the thing that stands out the most is the similarities in their work ethic and determination to be the best. Disappointing endings in previous seasons was a big factor in each teams' determination in their championship run. I'm just proud to have been a part of each of those teams.

Watching Clintwood beat Bowling Green in the State Championship game. Also watching my cohort run a touchdown against Lebanon I believe. He could fly!!!!!! Bill Elliott winning the Winston Million. This is what started the Nascar craze.

What started the craze in general was the fight with Allison & Yarborough in Daytona in the first live televised race.



My #1: Winning the Dinkmasters Bark Camp Brawl.

In no particular order:

A few years ago when the 'Canes visited Blacksburg and laid an up and down whip-ass on the Hokies. The reason it was so memorable for me is that I watched it with a group of Hokie fans. At first I was kind of quiet, but as the score got up there (as well as the alcohol), I became more and more vocal. Got into a shouting match with a few of the boys before departing.

Seeing my sons play football in BSG little league a few years ago. They both played for the Chargers. My youngest got a sack and my oldest was playing TE and caught a few passes. Never a prouder moment in my life to that point.

Watching Tom Glavine throw a shutout against the Indians to win the World Series for the Braves. Just a few years earlier, they were losing close to 100 games. I took more than my share of ridicule in college for liking them.
