Has anyone else here fallen in love with a historical because of the drawings of her in her books? That is sort of what happened to me with Josefina...I just think the illustrator made her look like a lot of fun, and sooo sweet. She's so pretty! The same thing with Addy. I also love how each book has the "family" and "friends" page at the beginning. It's so helpful when a new character is introduced in the story, to be able to see what they look like. No Laura, I am sorry. [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img] I do not have her YET. I have thought about her a lot because of all of the wonderful things that she and Kit can share. It was when I saw the photo of Molly and Emily that I decided I had to have them both. I wanted to read Molly's stories first, so I would know who I was saving up for. I think Molly is a beautiful doll. I have no doubt she will be joining the family soon. I am hoping to fall head over heels in love with her character by the time I finish reading her stories. The story collection I am reading is illustrated by Nick Backes. Is there another version?

I have the Molly 6 book set from 1990, and it has only the 3 girls on the card in the back, but the new illustrations.
Most of the book's pictures have changed though. I had 2 versions (first edition and current) of some of Addy's books and the pics weren't even close to the same.

I think Molly's illustrations are cute, as well as the ones for the other girls, but my favorite book illlustrations are the ones done by Ren?e Graef, who primarily illustrates the Kirsten books. She also illustrates the Little House on the Prairie picture books...books that I've loved forever. I don't know what it is about Ren?e's illustrations, but I love them.

We probably love Josefina's illustrations the best around here. That's why my daughters are pestering me to get her...

My favorite illustrations are the old Samantha ones, I agree with the "simple beauty" thought, and Josephina. We haven't bought a doll because of the illustrations yet, but Addy is calling to me from her book... buy me...buy me... ~Bugs
Illustrations played a big part in why I *didn't* chose Molly way back when I was picking my first doll- I thought she was ugly in the books!
I always loved how the friends and family pages look like photos or paintings of the day. Even when I first discovered AG, I adored the illustrations and would have to try hard to resist peeking ahead when I read a book for the first time. I wanted the pics to be a surprise.
I thought Samantha's original illustrations were just beautiful and was particularly upset when they redid them. The characters don't look right to me anymore, and Samantha isn't nearly as pretty.
I love how Molly's and Kit's are styled after advertisements of the 30s and 40, respectively.
