WTF?
Here's a thought: try giving them food and clothing. At least the robes will help keep them warm [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif[/img] That may be the stupidest idea in the history of mankind. I don't see it as bad. Atleast they are giving them something they may have never had. Maybe they will decide that they like it so much they will get a job.

What I was pointing out was they said these homeless women could "take home" their gifts.
Bet they'd like to have a home to do that with.

It isn't bad,but it sure as heck isn't practical either. My pont being that there's so much more that they need than a makeover. Give them that amount in clothes and food.

off topic here but does the Salvation Army still bring in gifts to the prisoners at Christmas? my sister and brother-in-law were working at Red Onion a few years back when the Salvation Army bought in gift packages for the inmates. I've never given to the S.A. since. There are people in need and to give them gift packages smacks of "helping people in need" to me.

I've had a similar experience with the Salvation Army, unfortunately. I found out who some of the folks were that they were assisting when they did angel trees in this area some time ago and it kind of burst my bubble.

And then there's the red cross, where a HUGE portion of donations goes to "administrative" uses (i.e. salaries)..

It kind of messes with a person. You know help is needed but you want to make sure what you give really goes where it's needed.

Try giving to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. eighty-five percent of what you donate goes directly to research. The other 15 percent is for things such as utilitiers and helping the families.

A good friend of mine had to spend 6 months at St. Jude's and they have to go back periodically and after talking with them and hearing their testimony of what St. Jude's did for them was fantastic. I have given monthy to them ever since. I highly recommend if someone is in the giving spirit to go with St. Jude's. There is nothing worse than seeing children with cancer, even moreso now that I have a little one of my own.

I also heard of the S.A. and the presents to the "inmates" and I haven't given a dime since.

St. Judes is a wonderful place. I had a cousin down there for about 6 months, and passed away while there because of leukemia. What they done for her, and my family members down there was amazing. I have given ever since as well.
