I might be sounding bias, but I'd have to pick the '93 Appy Dawgs. Everybody knows why they lost to Middlesex that year. They come back to Middlesex the next year with nearly the same team and win convincingly, 72-7.
Pretty impossible task to decide something like this. The talent level varies a lot throughout the past 30 years. Secondly, there's not many people that's followed all of these teams...maybe two or three at most and probably just in their 'home' district. That would mean everyone would be biased and insist on their Alma mater, can't blame anyone because the are going to follow and know more about their team then other ones. Lastly, you have to be in your 40's or 50's to really know about how good these teams were then - goes back to talent level at the time too. Just plain impossible IMO.
I would actually go with a team that wasn't on the list I don't believe. 1996 Gate City. They were a force that got upset by Brookeville in nasty conditions.
IMO the 87 and 88 Pennington Bobcats were a couple of the best to miss out. But I agree with MikMo...the 93 Dawgs would wipe the floor with nearly any runner-up team I can think of. But, they kinda got in a no win situation stemming from the half state game.

Even though its before my time, I'm going to go with a bit of historical significance, not just due to the team but the era of the team and go with Clintwoods 73 team that lost with the infamous questionable call versus Madison I believe it was. I guess what always struck me was when Hardees in town had the blown up picture of the call. Considering what the Clintwood teams did over the next several years, I don't know if there was a better 'team', if you consider a team not just necessarily one good year.
I admit some bias and admit that I have very limited knowledge, just some grainy films I've seen, but judging the era and the talent around here then, and the fact that it was a screwed call to cost it, hard pressed to be beat in my opinion.
I saw that game at Big Stone. Madison was the biggest team I've ever saw or seen. It was a teriffic game.
