I like baseball...
BUT...one thing that really ruins MLB for me is the fact that it's season is SO FARGIN LONG.
So, I'd like to hear some feedback on an idea I've got. Cut the season in half. Instead of 162 regular season games, make it 81/80. Get all of those games in before the All-Star break. Trade deadline gets moved up to the end of the regular season. Get a week off, play the All-Star game (played on July 14th this year), take another week off, and then the playoffs begin.
That way, you're starting the playoffs no later than the end of July (as opposed to starting them on 10/7 this year). You get the playoffs series, can maybe even play 7 games in the divisional series instead of 5 w/the extra time allowed. Worst case scenario, the World Series starts at the beginning of September instead of in late October. You get the World Series in before snow/severe cold sets in.
Personally, baseball to me has always been a summer sport. It's no fun to watch/play either one in cold/snowy/rainy conditions. Plus--after nearly 200-some odd regular season/post season games, I've had enough as a fan, especially with football season ready to come in full bloom.
Also--this makes the games that much more important. Meaning you'll see teams play harder, have more passion, and lay it all on the line everyday.
The way I've outlined doing it may not be THE way to do it, but I think the season needs to be shorter for a multitude of reasons.
Thoughts?

Re: I like baseball...
I agree 100% with the fact that baseball is too darn long. I would work it out to where the season begins same time which is April and run thru end of August. Maybe cut it back to 100 games or so. Because in all honesty when football season starts up I hardly ever watch baseball again unless I am just bored during the week. By that point I have already lost interest until playoffs come along. As you said Cane baseball is a summer sport and should not be played in the snow or temps below 40-50 degree, leave that to football.

eliminate the sport all together :)

I have the same complaint. When something begins, then ends, you can really appreciate it. But baseball seems to go on and on and on and on and on and on.

Re: I like baseball...
Complaining about a long season is ridiculous compared to the NBA. At least you get more games for the same length of a season.

Re: I like baseball...
Nothing is worse than NBA Playoffs, they take up 2 months alone.

Re: I like baseball...
I agree Stripes. Didn't the NBA playoffs just end in June or something like that?? And their season has already started?? I think there is a couple months difference in the length of baseball season compared to basketball, professional I'm talking about.

Re: I like baseball...
MLB, NBA & Nascar are all too long in the season's.
NFL has it right. 16 regular season games. each one counts a LOT. playoff format is good also, with just a tweek or two to make it even better.

i agree, hell I would cut it down to 50 games in the NBA, and about the same for MLB.
