Re: Horns for every taste
Yea no kidding - very nice!
How do you like the Avantgardes? I asked because I heard them at the Montreal show a couple of years ago. I was quite surprised at how bad they were (and I was not alone). Very harsh, very distorted, bad bass. But they were overdriving them. Maybe they sound better at lower volumes.
Re: Horns for every taste
Nice Setup Leif very nice,:2thumbsup:
Re: Horns for every taste
I?ve had mine since 2000 but they?ve sort of evolved into something I really like
M-Cap Supreme Silver in Oil and Duelund resistors in the filters
bybees on all drivers
solid silver in cotton all over
Original highly eq?d subs thrown out years ago and replaced by hi-eff dual neodynium 15s in 320 liters vented cabs minus 3db@38hz and 103db/watt very little analog eq.
these are now sold and will be replaced by 2 vented boxes with dual 15s in each on each channel tuned for 103db@25hz unequed.ETA Norway in 3 weeks
will be driven by 4 x 30watt custom analogue chipamps
have huge living room with 5,5 meters to top of ceiling so I need the extra headroom
these are made by Bert Doppenberg(Mr.Oris) in The Netherlands, same as previous ones.
pls see enclosed picture of setup until 2 weeks ago and new matrix prototype(1 of 4 ordered)
so while I wait for the new basstowers I?m playing with Altec and will probably realize an all out Hiraga A-5 effort

Re: Horns for every taste
thats a nice collection of vynil ya have there leif! also an emense amount of intricate bracing in that sub box! must sound very tight.
Re: Horns for every taste
hello
thxs
that?s just the jazz vinyl section! I also have one equally extensive for classical and another for pop/rock/blues and 1,5TB hd wav files!
what I lack is TIME!
the BD bass bins are cnc?d out of 15mm baltic birch plywood and are extremely stiff and with (if any) resonance point well above the actual working range.
looking fw to test them in a few weeks

Re: Horns for every taste
hello folks
a little luck is needed
the footprint of the Avantgarde active sub on its side equals the footprint of a vertically placed 816A
and this is how it looks
and it actually sounds very good

Also heard them at the Montreal show, was sorely disappointed, left the room quickly. Hope they are at the show this year, would like to give them a second listen.
Very nice setup!
