Don't know how many of ya like Type O Negative (I've always liked 'em lots)...but Peter Steele passed away last night. Only man I've ever seen with my own eyes play an upright bass slung around his neck...I hadn't even heard of these guys until I went to the Tennessee Theater back in 1994 to watch Motley Crue when John Corabi was the vocalist. But, before the show there were four guys in black out talking to the fans who were in line to get in. When the opening band (Type O) took the stage it was apparent to everyone who those guys were. They payed 2 songs (about 20 minutes) before P.S. (who could tell the folks at the show were bewildered by his band) stops playing and says something to the effect of "F@ck you if you don't understand" and the band left...the next day I bought "Bloody Kisses" and was hooked from there. A year or so later they opened for Ozzy at Thompson Bolling and folks loved them. Kinda strange how that all played out...guess it goes without saying that I really liked this band, and this guy can't be replaced and will be missed...Anyways...

Multiple sources are reporting that Type O Negative lead singer/bassist Peter Steele has passed away at the age of 48 from heart failure.
Steele?s death was faked in 2005, but it appears to be true this time around.
Type O Negative was one of the most famous goth bands, and Steele was known for being a giant man with a deep voice.
He also gained some notoriety for having appeared in Playgirl back in the mid 90?s.
Steele struggled mightily with depression and substance abuse. But, in recent interviews it seemed that he had turned his life around.
On a personal level, it?s nothing new for the lead singer of my favorite band to die. Now the lead singers of both of my all-time favorite bands are dead (the other is Kurt Cobain of Nirvana).
I hope you?ve finally found peace, Pete.
