Most overrated celebrity

I've just had the very dubious pleasure of listening to a song on the radio by Ja Rule and J Lo (the title escapes me - perhaps it was 'Let's bore the arse off of the listening public' [img]wink.gif[/img] lol) and I found myself thinking 'What is it about this woman that makes her so bloody popular (and rich)?'

For the life of me I can't figure it out. In my opinion, she has minimal talent in everything she does, be that singing, acting or dancing. Her looks border on being distinctly average (flat face) and her figure is likewise (except for her fat arse which probably has it's own contract and entourage [img]graemlins/devil.gif[/img] ) and she can't sing for shit so WTF is her goddamn secret? [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Oh, and my other pet hates are Geri Halliwell (no discernable talent in ANYTHING) and Mariah Carey (a voice that only dogs can hear (& like) and ridiculous breasts). Those 2, along with the aforementioned J Lo, should be packed into a sealed container and dropped overboard into the Cayman Trench. [img]graemlins/thumbs_down.gif[/img]


Are there any celebs that you think don't deserve their fame? If so, why and what d'you think their fate(s) should be?

I agree about J-Lo. I think she is *completely* overrated and I don't see the fascination with her bum to be honest [img]tongue.gif[/img] Maybe that's because I'm not a guy BUT - I like girls too and I STILL don't see the big whoop.
I think she has a pretty face but for the most part it's all makeup. She does have that entourage to follow her around to make sure she looks good and that's why she does. I also don't get the whole Ben-Jen thing, I was a fan of Ben Affleck before all this because I saw him as a great actor worth my respect. Suddenly he seems shallow. I'm sure he's had a frontal lobotomy. *lol*

Also...

-Jordan - OK nearly everyone sees Jordan as a joke, and well, I kind of feel sorry for her...she made some bad choices. She's actually a very pretty girl (or she was at least before all the surgery). She could have easily been a model without doing all that. The boobs are overkill and she wears too much makeup. I saw a picture of her though where you couldn't see her boobs (she was sitting with her knees drawn up to her chest) and it was in black and white, and she was smiling, not pouting. She looked very attractive (not my type, but still.) She was obviously wearing makeup for the shoot, but it was minimal and made to be natural-looking. And she looked really nice!! Normal, even. And it made me wonder why she would want to do all that to herself when she was that pretty anyway.

Hmn... -footballers in general. Just that whole thing where they get to buy into celebrity just because they can kick a ball. I'm probably being really biased here but who cares [img]tongue.gif[/img] It's mainly because I saw a programme about that and the footballers who were interviewed were chauvinistic idiots. I think they get paid waaaaay too much for what they do. And to get fame as well...well, it's just not fair.

I can't really think of anymore right now. There are other people I can't stand but I guess in the end that just comes down to petty personal resentments. Just like..."Bleh. I don't like her." If I come up with anymore though I'll probably be back here to vent [img]tongue.gif[/img]

There's a whole genre of celebrity that annoys the sh*t out of me these days and all those ^^^ fall into that category I'm afraid. It's cos it's ALL based on image and the fact that these people (women for the most part) are defined solely by their sexuality. Some of them just become charicatures of themselves in the end.

All this rumpus about those footballers and trashy bimbos just reinforces my views *shakes head* I hate the fact that all these people get paid huge wads of money for having no talent whatsover!! (OK I'll allow for the fact that some of the footie players may have some talent on the pitch but that's only where they have any talent! [img]tongue.gif[/img] ) Too much money and too much over-exposure (in more ways than one).

It's the fame thing that just goes to their heads, they think they are unassailable and that coupled with vast amounts of money they all become too big for their own egos never mind their heads. The danger point comes when they start to believe in their own publicity and then they lose all sense of reality. The phrase *lost in showbiz springs to mind! [img]graemlins/devil.gif[/img]

Most over rated celeb imo - Pamela Anderson... wtf is so good about her?! Her boobs are fake, the rest of her isnt that special, she sure as heck cant act - all she can do is run along a beach looking "sexy" [img]graemlins/sure.gif[/img] lol

I love Cazzer's description of Cilla Black and her OTT Scouse accent. She's definitely over rated. Fortunately we don't see much of her these days.

I would like to say I'd like to get rid of all the people from Big Brother who seem to become 'celebrities' overnight. Why? Add my name to the others who wonder why J Lo and Mariah Carey are celebrities. Maybe we could round them all up and bore each other to death. I'd also like to get rid of Michael Barrymore who I think just delights in taking the pee out of people without being funny in any way. I know he's still popular with a lot of people though so maybe I'm in the minority.

Not sure what I'd like to do with these people unfortunately, a nice crocodile pit somewhere maybe or is that too harsh?
