Very Nice, cabinets are in beautiful shape wonder what they will go for, they are quite rare.
Not quite as interesting, but good starter set?
Altec Lansing 9842-8D Studio Monitors W/Hangers (x2) - eBay (item 140403269168 end time May-05-10 12:46:32 PDT)
Would really love to have a pair of the passive three way crossovers from the 9861's, 1200hz & 8000hz.
Seems 1200hz is a little steep for 411-8A's.
These are pretty interesting to me too for selfish reasons. I want to know what 288B's are going for these days....:D
Pair, Vintage Altec Lansing IPC LU -1104 Horn Driver NR - eBay (item 260592722315 end time May-03-10 11:09:46 PDT)
1200 seems extremely steep for a 411. That speaker had me scratching my head
the last time it came up. Seems to have been built with all left over parts from
other speakers. The xover was a simple first order band pass between 1200 & 8000.
How 101 can you get...................
:)
These were one of the things the Japanese market wanted. The 902-8A with 811B would be much better replaced with a large format driver (say, a 288 w/511E),IMHO, if it would fit. The cabinet is probably not deep enough without cutting the backboard for the driver (sans early 846's w/ 804/806 & 811). A 500 or 800hz crossover seems fitting for the 411 in the 9861, as in the 873A Barcelona. Maybe the horn load yielded some civilization for 1200hz.
1200hz & 8000hz works for my horn loaded 515-8LF's w/ 288-8G/511E, & 802-8G (A7-500WII).
I'd wager the 411 behaves quite differently in that setup than it does in a 5-8 ft3 sealed box. I wonder if some high pass filtering was needed to prevent over-excursion in the lowest octave?Quote:
