Re: 1233 and 1236 speakers
You found some near you for a good price?
Re: 1233 and 1236 speakers
Very much the musician/PA gear, higher power handling 1" and LF.
Re: 1233 and 1236 speakers
The 1236s the band used at my HS prom are what started my long affair with Altec gear. While I stood awestruck my friend did the Tennessee Waltz thing, and stole my sweetheart... (he did me a favor, he's since been under the rule of the mother-in-law from Heck...) ;)
Great club/party speakers. They need subs, but so do A7s.
Re: 1233 and 1236 speakers
[QUOTE=Cal Weldon;1828862]Going to have a look in the morning. Price sounds more than reasonable. ;)
They both have the 421-8LF woofers, 808 tweeters, one with the 511 horn and the other with the 811 and stock 1200hz? XO's
I didn't know the 1" MDF 828 cabinet was used for something other than the A5/A7.
Can you give me an idea what I'm in for? I have heard both good and bad about the 421-8LF but I've not heard one myself. Any info, as always, is appreciated.
When I lived in Vancouver I bought four 1233's from a guy in Victoria that had the Altec powered biamp modules in them. The amps were not the best but the price was right for the lot. They had casters on them so I could wheel them into the backyard to drown out the neighbours regular, very loud, easy listening music parties. Very effective. I ended up getting the 421's reconed with 416 kits which had very similar TS specs to my real 416's. Mine came with Symbiotic diaphragms but I replaced those with Aluminum versions. So this is like the "my grandfathers knife" story but all in all it was worth the cost and I still have everything and use them in their revised form. As is, they're pro speakers but good in the backyard. They didn't replace my 19's but I think you have a mountain of good Altec gear for home use.
Kyle.
Re: 1233 and 1236 speakers
Thanks for the replies guys. I went ahead and got the 1233's. The drivers are in great shape. Cabinets a bit rough but not too bad.
The 1236's are a bit different. Dusty surrounds, dented dust caps and scruffy MDF cabinets. 511's mounted inside and no hardware to move them to the top nor boards to change the ports. Still I have to find a way to get them home I think. He only wants $650 CAD.
Uh...Honey? ;)
