Satanists host public event at Civic Center as Christian groups pray outside

James Hale, one of the leaders of the Church of the IV Crown Princes, said the group sold about 70 tickets to the event. The tickets were sold for $15 apiece. Hale said he was pleased with the turnout, but he thought other ticket-holders didn't show up because of the crowd outside the building.
"I think some got deterred by the protesters," he said.
If Satanists or Atheists did this for a Christian rally at the same civic center, then this would be a national headline with outrage galore. Yet and still--it's a breach on 1st Amendment rights...freedom of assembly/speech (you thought I was going to say religion didn't you?). This, to me, is a microcosm of what I spoke about being wrong w/Organized Religion on the Non-Sports thread.

"This is a Christian nation founded on Christian principles," Brandt said.
"I think this (Satanist gathering) is sad."
His feelings about the gathering aside...I hate to break it to this cat, but we (the US) is a Sovereign nation founded on Democratic principles, and per the 1st Amendment--Church and State are to be held seperate. I'm sorry, but we're not all Christians here. If anything religiously motivated about our country's founding--we were intended to be religiously neutral and tolerant. Why did our people come across the Atlantic to America? To escape religious rule and intolerance by Great Britain's society and government. Looks like we're right back to where we started.

You are probably right, but not for the reason you are thinking. If it had made news, it would be because atheist groups were complaining about a Christian group using a civic center owned by city government, for prayer.

Haha Because Christians are always the victims, huh? Hardly ever.

Dude--Christians get to use public arenas for major productions every single year. Right off the top of my head, you've got Winterfest at Thompson Bolling Arena, which is a Non-Denominational (read: Pentacostal) youth rally. UT is a state school receiving state funding, and the TBA is a part of UT...and that never makes news in the way that you implied.
