Pit bull kills 4-day old infant...
I don't think these should be allowed to be owned, really I don't.
In Jacksonville, Florida a 4-day-old infant died when the family's pit bull attacked the baby on Sunday evening.
The incident is being investigated to determine how long the infant was left unsupervised. The baby's father says it was just a couple of seconds.
"'Our investigation will reveal if the incident was abuse, neglect or an accident,' said the DCF spokesman," according to CNN.
The official report will not be in for weeks. The investigators will determine if this is a case of neglect or abuse, or if the animal has a history of being aggressive.
The breed has a history of being aggressive, so why was it allowed in the house with a baby. This case enrages people on both sides, but the evidence is clearly mounted against the ownership of pit bulls.
Authorities have euthanized this pit bull. Some states have pit bulls categorized as vicious. If you try to get homeowners insurance they ask if you have a dog. If you say pit bull, be ready to be disconnected. If you say Golden Retriever the conversation will continue.
The parents of this four-day-old baby are suffering, but many concerned citizens would like this to be the last child killed or maimed by a pit bull.

Re: Pit bull kills 4-day old infant...
Although there are some pitbulls that will never be a problem, this particular breed of dog has been poorly bred throughout the decades; many of the existing dogs today do come from fighting lines.
On the other hand though, a poodle could have been the offending dog in this story, when it's all said and done. Just never leave babies/children alone with dogs. Even if they aren't being malicious a dog can cause harm from curiosity. Infants are small, they smell different, they make odd sounds, they dont move like adults...
Re: Pit bull kills 4-day old infant...
Its as much the parents fault as it is the dogs.
Re: Pit bull kills 4-day old infant...
Absolutely it is, they need to have some major charges brought against them and spend some major time in jail. But I don't believe they should be allowed to be owned for incidents just like these, yes any dog can turn and attack, but much more likely to and overwhelmingly does happen with pits.

It is just like keeping a Python in the house with kids.

Pitbulls should be wiped clean from the face of the earth, period.
Re: Pit bull kills 4-day old infant...
Honestly I think it is the parents fault just as much. You NEVER leave your infant alone with a dog or cat much less a pit bull. We used to have a Rottie (she died last year) we rescued her from an abusive home when she was 2 and was the sweetest dog, my son played with her but not without supervision. Any dog can kill someone especially an infant, when I was around 7 or 8, I was attacked by a ****er Spaniel and my bottom lip barely hanging and had to have emergency surgery. Heck, my mom has an evil dog that I won't let my son touch and its a Chihuahua...

Bingo! Pits were bred to be protectors and watch dogs, not cuddly lap dogs. Like elp6n said, they are also from fighting blood lines. They were not originally meant to be cuddly house pets. Some of them have adapted to the cuddly house pet, though.
As per the poodle, don't laugh. Most people immediately think toy or tea cup. A full-sized poodle can be just as possessive and vicious as a pit bull, just not quite as strong. But after having been attacked by one of those as a child myself, I want to ban the breeding of those dogs. People laugh when you say a poodle attacked you until they stand beside a full-grown, full-sized version with a bad attitude.

I don't think anyone here argues the fact that this is the parents fault. I just think having a dog alive on earth thats been bred to do nothing but kill, is insanity. Oh yes, theres those out there that people THINK are house broken, but its in their blood. They are called PITbull for a reason. They were bred to be thrown into a pit and fight to the death. Their sole purpose in life is to kill.

Theres quite a few dogs that were bred for hunting and killing animals. I am not a pitbull fan, but I don't want to see them wiped off the planet. Spuds MacKenzie was one cool pitbull. :)
