who won Appy-Coe and Pound-TW?
Pound girls won big. Not sure of score but they were up by about 30 at the half.
Pound boys lost 44-43. Pound committed about 35-40 turnovers.
Holston High School?s varsity girls basketball team has not won a game since 2005.
Guess what they can?t say in Damascus, Va., anymore.
Backed by a team-high 11 points from Taylor Doss and 10 from Morgan Lowe, the Cavaliers put a stop to their 103-game skid Friday night with a 40-34 win over Johnson County.
"Oh, it was a huge weight off our shoulders," said head coach Jimmy Brown.
Brown said the win set off a celebration in the locker room after the two teams shook hands following the game.
"We had parents crying," he said. "There was a lot of excitement. It was beautiful."
The excitement however, did not spill out into the sleepy streets of the Appalachian Trail town.
"There are no fires, no cars were turned over," Brown said while laughing. "You would have never known we hadn?t won one in so long. [The girls] done it like they?ve been doing it for years."
The Cavaliers host Galax on Monday and welcome John Battle to town on Tuesday.
"The road," Brown said, "does not get any easier."
