Replacement speakers for University columns
I have a pair of vintage University outdoor speaker columns, model CSO-6. Some of the drivers are bad, and I?m interested in any information I can find in regard to either repairing the faulty drivers or finding adequate replacements. I am more interested in being able to use these than I am in doing a restoration, so if it is more cost effective to use replacements that is what I would prefer. Of course to do that I would need to know something about the specs on the originals.
Each column has six speakers, apparently two each of three different speakers as follows, from the top down:
University 5003022943 OAK ?8 77
University 6126 650
University 6125 701
University 6125 701
University 6126 650
University 5003022943 OAK ?8 77
I think that both of the 6125?s and one of the 5003022943?s are bad, but I?d like to get specs on all of them for possible replacement if possible.
Thanks for any help you can provide on this.
Re: Replacement speakers for University columns
By the way, as I posted in another thread, I got these from my dad, who worked in radio and TV since the 1930's, owned a recording studio and did professional sound work all his life. He used to use them for outdoor PA gigs (I carried them a lot, and they aren't light).

OEM replacements are NOT likely.
You might find a set somebody is scrapping.
I don't have enough info to recommend replacements....pics of the internals would help more than the label.
Essentially, I am gonna assume it is one of those "tapered" deals EV and University did.
The larger speakers on the outside...smaller in the center. The idea was the entire length of the column was used at LF but the column got acoustically shorter at higher freqs, the concept being to obtain constant dispersion.
I cannot testify how it worked. I always played with bigger stuff.
Essentially to recommend any replacements gonna need pics of the originals and size.
Parts Express is a good place to start.
If you are a vendor or can pretend to be I like Martin Pro Sound in Cleveland.
