Conflict of interest of School Board member or two
I was watching themeeting from monday nite that was airing tonite and Hutchinson was talking about having to go on Senior trip as chaperone,I asked the wife who went to Appy " is he a teacher at the school?" she said he used to be at PV and thought he still was. Isn' it a conflict of interest that as an employee of the school system that he has and still does vote on matters the could affect his job and co-workers.
I know Cassell of Nortons board abstains if there is a vote on contract work Daniels does as thats his employer and could influence vs another company getting the work.
Another is that Cornett and Rivers used to own quite a bit of property in the Southern area they rent and is adjacent to the property where the elementary school and high schools are now, the plans for the new school were on part of what they owned, but when the board nixed the idea they flipped there platform of a new school for western wise county.
Re: Conflict of interest of School Board member or two
Hutch used to teach at PV but his wife is at AHS,
Re: Conflict of interest of School Board member or two
I thought Hutchinson was an administrator at the prison??
Re: Conflict of interest of School Board member or two
He is at the prison, his wife teaches at AHS

Honestly though I would think Hutchinson SHOULD abstain from any votes regarding staffing issues due to a HUGH conflict of interest
Wonder how big a stink the anti side would be making if anyone from the pro side was literally in bed with someone looking for financial gain out of this situation

If that is the case, then so should Bates, his wife heads up the special education department at the county level if I am not mistaken. Mullins should excuse himself too for his involvement in the AOA.
Then, if you want, Bates on the BOS should excuse himself from voting on school funding issues because he is the brother to Bates on the SB. Shortt should excuse himself also because his wife now works at the SB office.
If you look hard enough, that was the biggest issue with the 2-1 and 3-1 sites. One of the board members stood to gain tons of money from the sale of land.
I could go on and on, but I won't because just by looking at these examples, you can see that most everyone on both boards has some sort of agenda.

Great points while I still think in an Idea world those with conflict of intrests should step aside on issues that affect them directly (Although AOA involvment may be pushing it).....That being said in our neck of the woods everyone is going to be related to someone in a position to benifit from anything good or bad that happens
I also agree that the 2 on 1 idea is what most people are against. IMHO with all that has changed in the last year that IF the SB would re-propose the 3 new schools on 3 new sites that the BOS would go with it

Would the issue about JH/Bettys land be public record?

You can go to the courthouse and find out who owns any piece of land in the county.
Re: Conflict of interest of School Board member or two
Is there any cost in that? I'm sure it wouldn't be much, but I know there are certain fees sometimes. And what land would I be looking at/asking for? Where in BSG would it be? Just trying to make sure this is the case before I go looking, but if it is, this is pretty big info(i'm sure I wouldn't be the first to bring it up) and should be used against these two.
