I called the guy and everything has been re-coned..the 604's are about 5 years apart......different colors too.....

yes i think your right.B's are a dark green.E are white or gray.

B's are black crinkle, There's a black crinkle C on Ebay right now...must be a real early one. E's are white frame Gray Magnet.

Agreed ! I see it,and I will bet my bottom dollar that C was prolly one of the very first C's as they probably already had some frames painted when the C went into production(Leftovers from the model 604B run).This is the only one I have ever seen.

Reading an article about Fender (the guitar company years ago, an employee stated that as parts came in the went into bins. There was no effort to use them in order.
That is why, on a later instrument, you can see an older serial, as the serial is on a separate metal plate.
I think some of the same thing went on at Altec. I do think, as older parts were discovered at later dates, Altec made an effort to use them up primarily in OEM versions. Most of the real oddities I have seen came in cabinets, not retail versions.

I think you're spot on OG. Pretty sure we've seen evidence on several occasions.
Do you remember the pics i dredged up(from ebay maybe) of the gray and white 416's a couple years back?
