Sorry I haven`t provided enough info. This unit was devised by EMI engineers for recording the Beatles. It`s similar to the APHEX compellor. It uses lower harmonics to recreate high frequencies. In other words it increases total HMD to achieve that.

It`s passive alright. I`ve been fixing Paging systems with APHEX systems. It improves overall speech intelligibilty and brings out details in music such as percussions . I prefer it to EQ.Not evry one want`s to replace all of their PA speakers with Altec`s.Quote:
