Vintage Altec Lansing model 15's
1 blown woof
That's really cheap too ! Even with a blown woof.
old guy, i sent you pm,thanks
Line above "1 blown woof" is a clickable link. You got PM back
Yeah, it's really hard with this new format to tell what's a clickable link and what's not...... :(
BTW, Great Plains Audio can recone that blown woofer. It's a common misconception that the Model 14 and Model 15 take the same woofer--but they are different woofers. The Model 14 woofer is actually a much better woofer. Here are the part numbers if someone buys these 15's and wants to recone the blown woofer.....
Model 14 woofer RCA34633
Model 15 woofer RCA33785 (same as the Model 9 woofer)

and a pair for $550 in "Wayne, NJ" apparently:
Excellent Condition Altec Lansing Speakers 15's
Yes, the 9842 is a Model 14 in a different cabinet -- it was marketed as a professional studio monitor whereas the Model 14 --even though it says studio monitor on it (as the Model 19 does), was marketed more as a home speaker. They both have the same 902-8A h.f. driver, same woofer, same mantaray horn, and the same crossover with h.f. compensation and dual band EQ.......
They were both marketed as a home speaker.(Model 14 & 9842-8D) Altec made a studio version of the 9842. The 9842-8A in the gray lacquer finish for recording studios,etc... Originally the 9842 was developed for the studio but then they came out with a home version with the (Walnut Veneer) the 9842-8D. :wink2:
Interesting--I always thought the Walnut Veneer version of the 9842 (the 9842-8D) was marketed for studio/pro use--for studios that were interested in aesthetics/decor. I've seen multiple ads and brochures for Model 14's for home use--they were obviously mainly marketed for home use. Never saw a brochure or ad for a 9842-8D for home use/home stereo set-up but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean anything--there are a lot more vintage Altec ads and brochures that I haven't seen than one's I have! :)
