(OT) So I met DB Keele Jr. over the weekend
I was at Akfest 2012 and while re-arranging my swap table and older gentleman walks up and points out my EV HR horns, mentioning that he designed them. He later partially recanted and said that the specific models I had came after his time, with EV. He did a search on a his smart phone and found an example of one of the really big horns he worked directly on........ took up the bed of a truck. I had no idea who I was talking to at the time. He started talking about what he was doing currently...... CBT (Constant Beamwidth Transducer) that is military technology applied to loudspeakers. I finally asked him his name....... Don Keele. He later brought me a single page brochure detailing the speakers he's been working on. I wish I could have talked more intelligently with him.
Edit: I'd add OT to the title, but I guess we can't edit those..... sorry Altec Best.

No Worries. Ask and you shall receive ABG.. Very cool story BTW. Lot of folks there this year ?

I'm not sure. I spent most of my time in the swap room trying to sell my extra junk and a few Altec pieces. The swap room wasn't one of the big rooms off the lobby like in 2010. It was up on the second floor and was two rooms put togther. They didn't look like normal sleeping rooms. They had little dinnete areas and the wall was removable, so I guess they're for smaller assemblies/meetings. I thought traffic was down...... and definetly sales of my stuff. I did sell an 803B in desperate need of GPA for $50, and the removable boards from that crushed 828 cabinet that I had, for $15. I also had the plywood boards that function as horns sleds for the big multi-cells, and an 415C in need of GPA, that didn't sell.
I covered my gas and fees but not much more.
I think I want to find a 1.3" driver to try out my EV horns.

Here's a picture that Dgwojo took of one of the CBT speakers.

Yes, he mentioned some deal with Parts Express. I didn't actually listen to them....... I never made it to that room. I don't recall his words, but the jist of it was that they defy conventional speaker thoughts. I need to read up on them. He mentioned the "ground plane" several times, which is why the mirror is positioned where it is.

Somewhere there's a picture of me and Don Keele in a Jacuzzi. He's an amazing guy- more energy and ideas than 2 men 1/2 his age.
His line array is very cool. The prototype I heard had some limitations (what doesn't?) but was very impressive. I'd love to see the concept pushed farther.
