Re: Altec 19's in So Cal CL
I was just going through our craigslist, Theres a pair of a7's with 12" eminence drivers the guy wanted $800 bucks...I laughed. Then there was a pair with original drivers that guy wanted $2700. I laughed again and then closed the page. Sick of the leaches who think they are gonna retire on a pair of Altecs.
Re: Altec 19's in So Cal CL
Looks like a nice pair. I'll bet those will sell quickly at that price--especially given the fact that there are a lot of Altec aficionados in Southern California....
Re: Altec 19's in So Cal CL
I will have me a pair one of these days, but I'll build em before I pay that much.

I actually consider $1400 to be a fair price these days if they're near mint/A- condition. Near mint Model 19's aren't becoming more common these days--seeing deals on 19's in really nice shape is gradually becoming less common IMHO. Yes, you still see deals on them once in a while, but deals on near mint 19's are becoming fewer and farther between. More and more I'm seeing them for close to or over two grand (either of those prices are too much IMHO). The pair currently on So Cal CL aren't quite all original since seller replaced the original bases so you could argue that lowers their value some.....
Yes, you could build a pair and probably save a little --but I don't think you'd save much unless you get some real bargains on your drivers. I'm thinking that a pair of: near mint/original cone 416-8B's, 802-8G's, 811b horns, and Model 19 crossovers can easily cost you $1100-$1200 and building the cabs is going to cost you lumber and a lot of time....
FWIW, I paid $1040 for my first pair of 19's and $1350 for my second pair a couple of years ago and consider both pair to be real bargains considering they're in amazing condition....

I too think $1400 is a fair price if they're as good as they seem to be. They also seem to be missing the foam around the 811's. I wouldn't stack them like in the photo, too easy to ruin that beautiful veneer.
Re: Altec 19's in So Cal CL
This seems to be a fine price, a pair recently sold 2850.00 on ebay and another for 2200.00 that were refinished... pairs in not good condition sell for this price and more on ebay.... a few years ago a set mint grills sold for 800.00.
