Are they very different for guitar amp use?
There is not really a 417 series 1 and 2. it is only the 8H model that has two versions. The series 2 has an aluminum former, and the voice coil is slightly heavier. The difference is subtle, but the 2 has slightly less highs. The preferred 417 is the C model, both the H models had tweaks to make them handle more power.
Thanks....... I almost asked the differance the other day. I don't know which version I have. They were in 1221A stage monitors and only have the part number stamped on the bare motor.Quote:

Marshall, my opinion is that unit was reconed by a local reconer. I do not have my sheets to refer to, but IMHO the cone number is about 10-20 years newer than the speaker frame. Original cone would have carried a 2xxxxx number.
I do think it is a newer Altec cone, but doubt was shipped to US and back.
