Check this out. I have noticed a buch of people talking about they are running 11 degrees of timing, I am running 16 degrees. (stock) anyway, I have my static fuel pressure set at 35-40 and my tip in at 45. I am using the jr fuel unit. My question is, why is my car still running so rich. I have been told that I need to switch to a cartech, and go to a 3.? to 1 rise rate. When I say it is running rich, I mean the bumber is black. Oh, I have not messed with the btc. I have it at 0. What I guess my question is, is would I be better off to bump my timing up to 18 or use the btc? I dont get any detonation that I know of or should I get the cartech?

Thats basically what I figured, but thought I would confirm it. The car runs pretty good in the low to mid range, but flattens out on the top end. (too rich) Anyway, how much do the cartech's run? Oh, and thanks for the response. [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

At those fuel pressures it sounds like you're using 310s or prelude injectors. If so, you should be running very rich up top if you're still using the JR FMU with a 5:1 rise rate. With the MAP controller installed for additional fuel enrichment and the BTC already altering your stock timing under boost, you shouldn't have any pinging (especially if you get decent gas in TN like 93 or 94 octane.) with 16 degrees of base timing. People running 11 degrees of timing are usually doing so because they don't have the JR MAP/BTC/H20 options or other standalone management. It sounds like you need a Cartech or other adjustable FMU to manage the rise rate and maximum fuel pressures under boost to cure your rich condition up top (and get more power).

If you're not in a hurry, I should have a very lightly used/new condition Cartech 2025i with all the piece parts (restrictor, barb fittings, etc.)I got from Jim recently. I've come down with a case of PMS [img]biggrin.gif[/img] . Just need to install it and get it running, and once I do, I'll be selling some other stuff including my Cartech.
