So I've worked out my upcoming budget for the next few months and it's...hm. Tight. But not impossible. My question is ... how do you typically decide how much to spend on "fun stuff" like American Girl? I asked my mom and she said, 'Whatever's reasonable.' But I know my family doesn't have tons of money to spare to help me out. My monthly budget is about $600. I spend around $300 on food, $150 on gas, and the rest is for miscelaneous expenses. I'd like to keep some 'buffer zone' in my account in case of emergency, but I want to have a little fun too. Hmmm...
Here's where the mangling comes in ... by the official talley, my text books would have come out to $550-600. By ordering used online and searching out people who'd already taken my classes, I wound up "only" spending around $300-330. Do you guys think it would be terrible to spend, oh, around $100-120 on a new AG doll or "big" accessory? What if I sold my old textbooks back to the school? I feel like I need a splurge BUT, I splurged a bit last month, too.
Argh. I'm so conflicted! I feel like a penny pincher and a fun spender are wrestling inside my heart ... Waaah! Why can't I have a job already? Then at least I wouldn't feel bad spending money that's available to spend.

Enjoy and have fun while you can. I have three kids, a household, and all those unfun bills. So, save a little, but have fun too!

I have to agree. I am engaged to get remarried and I have two boys that I stay home with during the week. My sewing is my therpay, and honestly what I spend in fabric in 3 months I could get a new doll. Yes, I am a fbirc addict, but coming to this board has given me into a new ddiction: AG dolls. My want list has grown, but there is only so much I can aford. So, my fiance and I discussed that I can have a new doll for a specail occasion like my birthday and Christmas (although he has no idea that he just opened a can of worms ). For my fabric addiction I get to spend what I have on my Paypal debit card (form sewing sales and Ebay stuff). I work in a fabric store, so resisting the urge to go home iwth all of the cute fabric and great deals is hard, but knowng taht if I restrain I can get a new doll with my income from sewing sales and ebay (then my fiance can't say anything).
Anyways, I would say go for it, as long as you can afford it. To be on the safe side I would suggest one doll and use the $10 off code. Thsi way you get to splurge, get your doll, and still have your financial buffer zone.
Just my two cents. If you get a new doll, I look forward to seeing pictures.
