it really depends on the exhaust. a Pacesetter (brand sux by the way) you'll have all most the same ground clearance as stock. but if you buy a Tenzo rear section, it sits pretty low. I have that exhaust and my car is lowered but, i also only have 1- 1 1/2" inch clearance. You really need to just decided what exhaust you want and then research it. good luck!

Im thinking of getting a custom exhaust put on my 91 Civic HB DX.
I'm doing that so i can use a universal muffler instead of that "ugly" stock position muffler. If i do that, would i have enough ground clearance for a drop? If so how much?

I've got a Thermal "oval" muffler with upgraded piping, and like Ami, I have little ground clearance. Then again, I tend to hit my bumpstops before the muffler hits the ground. Unless it's a big ass bump!! I've been known to shoot sparks every now & then.
Future plans call for a full Greddy cat-back cuz the muffler is relatively small. So hopefully I won't drag that one all over the place :-).

Hey CZ_R do you know of any other cat-back that don't sit low? I was thinkin a thermal but now i was lookin at maybe a DC but that cost even more. What does the HKS run for?
Tip to everyone with low exhaust, go buy two smaller rubber hangers for the back, this will pick the muffler up a bit, worked great on mine!

Honestly, no, I'm not too familiar with very many of the different cat-backs available for our cars. I've just seen pics of the GReddy, and know that it's dyno proven.
I've really been kinda curious about how the Thermal looks (hangs) on our 4g's, but these days everyone around here is goin' with the Tanabe Racing Medalion style mufflers.
Personally I'm not thrilled with my Thermal. It's WAY too loud, but I don't have an actual
"cat-back" system so I can't really talk down on 'em.
Whatever you decide to go with, good luck, and hook us up with some pics!!

I've got the Greddy SP on mine, and I've had very few clearance problems. My car used to be lowered 2", and I'd scrape my cat before I'd scrape the exhaust. I'd say go with the Greddy if you don't like the Thermal.

The Greddy is the same routing as the stock exhaust, but it's a 65mm pipe from the cat all the way back, so despite the large number of exhaust bends, it's an effective upgrade, especially if you're staying N/A...

Call me nuts but there's 18 gauge stainless 2.5 inch pipe for a really good price in JC Witney. I was thinking a while back of having either a straight-back exhuast or one that routes to the left side under the A-arm and back.
Also using a Thermal R&D silencer and Exhuast components - I think an 11" Oval Muffler was what they recommended for clearance reasons. They have parts listed on their web page. Just ask if you want to know where - I have to search for it in my links files.
Thermal parts sounds really nice too!
