My stock alternator finally bit the dust. I have a large current draw from my stereo and have an underdive pulley which slows the alternator speed. I can put a stock alternator back in(60amp) or modify the alternator bracket and put in a GM alternator(160 amp). Would there be any side effects (unwanted feedback noise) by installing the higher output alternator?

I think a Teg alternator puts out more than 60 amps...and it should be closer than a GM one in terms of "fitment" (to use marked001's term http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif)

4-doors kick butt & I in a quandry about that ZC! Is the time to rebuild it and make it 'right' worth the time & money if I were to get another ZC with unknown history???
Not too concerned about fitment since I can modify the bracket myself. iwas just curious about feedback noise from my msd ignition.

Honda uses an FR signal from the alternator to feed to the ECU. Among other things, it basically tells the ECU the engine is running. I don't know a lot about it, but maybe it's something you should be aware of.

you might want to consider a ZC alternator... rumor is it puts out more power since the JDM SI's had Power steering A/C Power windows, power locks and all the goodies.
I have one kicking around the garage i'll have it tested and tell ya what it scored.

Your worried about alternator whine in your stereo, right? Well, by adding the higher output alternator, your increasing your chances of getting whine in the system. But you should *probably, dont quote me on this* be fine as long as all your grounds are good, youve got good RCA's, and your components are of good, non-noise producing quality http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

Yes good grounds are important... however you can pickup Ground Loop isolators for about 10$ each this will eliminate the problem. You will need one for each RCA you are running.
However dude 160amps is slightly overkill our little cars only need 50amps to work properly and unless you are running 3000 watts you don't need 110amps for you stereo.
I have 2 amps I have 4 guage from the battery, into a cap then a fused block and 8 guage to my amps one 300watt rockford for my subs and a 425watt MTX powering my Fronts.
this is with my STOCK battery and 60amp alternator.
if you insist on getting more Get a Honda/acura alternator, because you will be sure it will fit. I think interga GSR's (94+) have 90-100 amp alternators... not 100% positive though.

i picked jer's brain about this one last night (he's a car audio installer).
have you considered picking up a rebuilt alternator...or have your rebuilt for more amps?
i couldn't remember all that you were running. however, i did tell him you're running a lot. he seems to think you shouldn't need more than 120 amp alternator.
have you considered a CAP and bigger battery?
e-mailme a list of your equip. and i can pick his brain for the best way to go without the "whine"
