GUYS - esp Pocket, TBo, Steve, etc. - I don't know any other way to break this news except to just straight-forwardly come out & say it. I just received a forwarded warning - it seems a nasty virus has been unleashed on us again [not kidding]. I sent every1 on my mail'g list an important message - PLEASE READ & FOLLOW IT'S DIRECTIONS [to those of you I may have had in my address/contacts book - whether I have actually sent you an e does not matter!] It lays dormant for 14 days while it forwards itself via your contacts/address book in your e-mail, & then after, opens itself & damages your hard-drive. It is called "jdbgmgr.exe" & it attaches itself to your systems/programs. Use your "search/find" function from your "start" menu, RIGHT CLICK [NOT LEFT!!] on it, delete it, & delete it from your recycle bins. It was passed on from me w/out my know'g it - very sorry [to those who were in my addr. book.] I am going to keep a close eye out for it on my 'find' function for the next 2-3 wks. to make sure it was not re-sent to my hard drive....
-
SH**! - BTW, it has a "cute" li'l teddy bear icon next to the SOB -
-
guys, this is a hoax. look it up on google. don't delete shit or you're going to have problems.
trust me.
-
well, OK, Derek, if you say so, but I found it lodged in my systems commands [thru the "search/find" function on any PC] - it was DEFINITELY there - whether or not it will do what it has been said to do is another thing; but I for one was not will'g to take the risk - I know it wasn't there to start with, & it shouldn't've been there now - better safe than sorry, I always say. I've had no problems so far w/ the deleting of it...I'm definitely not an exponent of "scare tactics" - you will never find any BS in any of my posts - I'm just relay'g what was informed of me & what I found on my system....
-
- just doin this outta courtesy - pass'g on info that was provided me - how any 1 else handles it is up to them - proceed at your own risk - if it is indeed a hoax; sorry for the stupidity, & no harm done [as I was not the originator of it, & have no desire to set off a 'panic']....
-

If there's one thing that NEEDS to be bookmarked, it has to be Hoaxbusters.

They debunk all of that stuff, like the missing Penny Brown girl that I know for a fact you've received at least once in the past few years.
Anyway, here's the link to the jdbgmgr.exe hoax, explaining the teddy bear and all.
Hope this eases everyone's concerns.

we all appreciate the warning. I should probably have explained how I know it's a hoax in more detail.
I'm a SysAdmin at a large entertainment company in Los Angeles. We've seen this particular email go around countless times in our company. I can assure you that it is a hoax. You will find this file on any computer that runs java. (which nowadays is every computer) This is why this particular hoax works so "well."
Just trying to save you some headaches. Always research the net before you do anything.

OKAY, guys - MY APOLOGIES - turns out that a good friend of mine [who works on computer systems] has contacted me about this [along with those of you], & it does indeed seem to be a hoax. So, I'm assum'g that you shouldn't delete anyth'g.
Altho I DID delete it [along w/ a few other of my friends], it seems it does no real damage if you do [as i have been told by the others in her company AW - hopefully it won't prove to be a PITA [pain-in-the-a**!] @ some later date].
Thanx to Derek & Uno [altho i wish ya woulda gone into a li'l more depth, D.!!! - no harm done, tho - ?!].
Nothin like a good ole a**-hole comin along w/ nothin better to do than come up w/ this kinda bull-sh** to make a guy like me into an idjit. I'm usually not that gullable, but my x-girlfriend sent it to me - [i still get along w/ her, tho; or so i think!!] Go fig.
You're right, the ted-bear cinches it -
["why would there be a 'teddy-bear' icon next to a systems folder/file/program?!!"]
-
- this forum is about drumming [& musicianship in general], & to have bull-sh** like this ending up taking up time & occupy'g space here REALLY tix me off - altho I must admit I was really thinking of you guys when it came to me - you feel you have to act quick if you think you are gonna be indirectly responsible for damage to someone's expensive system - some 'people' [& I use the term very loosely] in this world are just here to gum up the works, adding to the world's BS & making it just a little more difficult for every1 involved, thinking that it's funny, gettin a real kick out've stupid BS - they shoulda been "shot onto the sheets" instead ....
