Spear Britney?

'Pop diva Britney Spears is set to star in
her own wedding reality TV show. She will
allow cameras to film her and husband-to-be,
Kevin Federline, for the first few weeks after
they are married. Britney reportedly wants to
show fans how good their relationship is.

'The singer is in talks with MTV chiefs to
appear on the channel's hit show Newlyweds,
according to the Daily Star.

'The paper says Britney hopes the show will
help turn around her image after a year of
grabbing the headlines for all the wrong
reasons, including her bizarre 24-hour
marriage to an old school friend.

'The original Newlyweds series features pop
singer Jessica Simpson and her new husband
Nick Lachey.

'It is rumoured that the couple want to quit
the series which could leave the way open for
Britney and Kevin, who are due to wed in
November.'

Why is this news?

The appallingly chintzy MTV-produced farce
of Jessica Simpson and Co. ('I'm beautiful,
please don't hate me') is complete nonsense,
right?

'Average Joe' was funny, because AJ was
predicated, essentially, on betrayal and
disappointment (especially for the liquified
face of bastard child of Sylvester Stallone
and Matt Le Blanc guy), but haven't we had
enough of these schmaltzy productions,
already? Who is watching these? Who cares?

Yeah, it is getting rather sad. Honestly, the only one I watched was "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance", and that one actually surprised a few people as to how it actually came across as a decent show. My wife likes Jessica and her husband, but even she doesn't watch that show.

Britney is just trying to keep herself in the limelight, as she knows her career doesn't have much longer.

Turn around her image, by filming her for the first few weeks after the wedding? That's classic!

I guess the out-takes from the show will be topping the download charts like Pammy and Tommy.

Great way to turn her image around.

What occurs in 'Extreme Make-Over'? It sounds
interesting, but what's so extreme about it?

Oh yeh that's a great show Carl, what happens Darren is that they behead people and place their heads on genetically modified fruit and veg, they then see if their overweight couch potatoe relatives can tell the difference, it's pretty extreme to say the least, makes for great viewin' especially with a root beer and a scotch egg!...

Maybe that's be a good direction for Asparagus Spears and co to head in u recon? [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

<font size="4" face="Arial">Actually Home Edition is a spin off on those home improvement shows such as Trading Spaces, or in the UK I believe it is Changing Rooms. But with this show they find people in need, surprise them in the morning, ship them away on a weeks vacation, and then redo their entire houses, much of the time basically building new houses for people. The best one so far was a house of 8 kids whose parents both passed away the previous year, both parents within 16 days of each other, both of sudden heart attacks. Two of the older kids left their college lives and such to come home and keep the family together so no foster homes would step in. They built a killer house for the kids, and then in the end a rep. from Sears was there and told them that Sears had also just paid off their mortgage, and then they gave the kids the papers to throw in the fire. It's just a show where you actually get to see decency in people, and it doesn't appear to have any strings attached. These houses have to cost a fortune, and I really don't think anybody is making a killing on the show, and it does seem to be mainly people that truely do need the help.

That's cool. Quite humanitarian, in fact. Sadly,
in the UK they're really scrapping the bottom of
the overly-derived barrel thesedays, and there now
exists a '60 Minute Make-Over' show. It's hosted,
quite naturally, by a D-list celeb, and one watches
the screen baffled by what they'll think of next:
'60 second make-over'? Whereby, someone dashes in,
rearranges the cushions, puts the kettle on and
dashes back out again.

'...and I really don't think anybody is making a
killing on the show'

I sure their advertisers are (and all its
sponsors, like Sears).

Yeah, well Sears is also the company supplying all of the tools and all of the furniture and appliances. I am sure that they get a kick back on the taxes and on the commercials, but they sure are putting out a ton of stuff. They show the run down at the end of the show, and usually Sears supplies about 150+ Craftsman tools, and those ain't cheap! Plus the appliances are usually top of the line stuff, including numerous Plasma TV sets. So yeah, they obviously get the promotional advantage, and they look good for doing it, but in a situation like this one, it's all cool, if you ask me.

Sears wins by ostensibly looking altruistic. Nobody's
fooled though, right?

Oh no, of course not. But to pull off a show like this, you need some corporate giant to step in and do something to help. But I mean, they didn't have to pay off that mortgage, and they still would have looked great. But by doing that, they gave a bunch of kids that much more of a chance, hopefully also made those kids see the world in a better light, and made better people for it. They have also done little other bits here and there they don't have to do, but they still do. Trust me, I HATE Sears, I try not to buy from them, but I do like what they do with this show.
